Hydro Cooler Failure TC-40D

I think I would take it to a good metal fab shop, that has experience welding aluminum, and let them have a go at it. The fact that there was fluid in it, and probably in the crack, will give them a little difficulty, but if they clean out the area and crack good, I think they'll have no problems.

I noted on my cooler that the weld area seems to be much more substantial than what is shown on others that cracked. In fact, I kind of like the more substantial weld than the washer fix, but time will tell.

Update on bad cooler...

I couldn't find anyone local who would even touch it. The first person I showed it to knew exactly what it was, 'cause he had another one EXACTLY like it on his shelf. He had tried to repair it, but it didn't go so well.

As far as talking to my dealer, no luck. Since NH hadn't put out anything saying they would replace them, he wouldn't.

So $230 (tax, shipping, clamps.. yeah, my dealer doesn't "just throw" anything in!) later, I am back in business. Still frustrating nonetheless.

I do the motorcycle radiators and Oil coolers on occasion, and I believe (although I have never done a tractor one) that they are the same.

I try to do some projects just to keep in practice, TIG welding is a perishable skill.

And as I have never done one, it would be nice to say, yep, I fixed one of those....

I'm a pessimist when it comes to making a repair on a hydro cooler. Lets hypothetically say that someone is able to repair a leaking cooler. And after it's installed a small piece of the welding material comes out of the cooler and does some damage to heaven knows what before the filter can catch it. Is the risk worth the cost of a new hydro cooler? Not in my opinion.

Do you have much weld 'inside' the cooler?

So im new to the sceen (should have my TC33 in a month or so)

but the oil cooler up front looks like a generic stacked plate cooler.

a quick check of jegs or summit will give you about 5 diffrent versions that i bet are a direct replacement for about half the cost.
