a quick check of jegs or summit will give you about 5 diffrent versions that i bet are a direct replacement for about half the cost.

Wow.. I want my money back...

Do ya'll reckon these coolers would suffice? How could one tell?

I noticed they wouldn't be a direct replacement, but some simple bracketry would make them fit I guess.

I'd look at flow rate ( pipe ID and length ), and psi capabilities... and then mounting points, and dimensions.

Those are the most important things to check, Chris. I didn't want to say anything before I checked, but the relief pressure on the charge pump for the HST system is 170 psi. That should be the maximum pressure felt by the cooler. If the cooler has been tested to 200 psi, it should be okay.

Of course, the replacement cooler should also have a similar surface area for cooling. If I was adding an after-market cooler, I might buy an oil temperature
gage with the money I save. I've always wished I had a HST temperature gage in addition to my engine coolant temperature gage.

Great idea. Wonder what normal is?

After a week or so of running with the temp. gauge you would most likely be able to figure out the normal working temp. Bob.

I meant degree Fahrenheit, number, and not relative position on gauge.

I'll bet a CNH dealer could tell you what a safe temp spec was on the hyd system. I'd bet one of their tech manuals has that for diagnostic purposes..

I wonder if they could tell me the min and max, if such numbers exist.
Then a temp gauge on the trans cooler would be nice. Especially if an aftermarket trans cooler in an attempt to save $$$$.
