I hate to be the bearer of bad news but mine was out of warranty too and they covered the part ( I installed it myself). Since there was a known problem I would think that you would be reimbursed from NH. It still might be worth a letter to New Holland explaining your situation.

You still may end up with a refund if you send a letter and at this point you have nothing to lose.

Any chance of a picture of the failed unit. The weld on mine is very heavy, so much so that I think it's a better connection than even the washered-versions they're using on the new units, but maybe I'm mistaken and failure is imminent.

Duane, I just went and looked at PineRidge's picture. Our coolers must be a different "batch" because mine is much beefier than his. I bet yours is like mine. I'll try to scavenge up a picture to illustrate the difference and post it.

Thanks PineRidge, the service manager explained to me that they would have to install the cooler at the dealer to obtain any warrantee reimbursement - I would have to pay the labor and parts - and then they would submit to New Holland for a possible warrantee reimbursment with no guarantee of seeing a dime. Sounded a little screwy to me but I think when I pick up the cooler I will push a little harder and see what I come up with. Thanks again.

Definitely a difference there Jim.

You are oh so correct Jim, as usual, and so helpful too - as my wife likes to say, do you do windows too?

Anyway, mine is the same and as I originally thought, maybe even a better connection than both of the newer designs. Too bad they had to make a change in the first place. All that weld seems like it would do a fantastic job of not creating a stress point - unlike either the no/limited weld or the washer.

I think if I was someone with the no/limited weld, I hang on to it and have someone do some heliarc welding on it to improve it before it blows.

I noted too Jim that yours, like mine, does not have any top bracket for the cooler connecting it to the radiator or anything else at the top. Always thought it seemed kind of flimsy, but so far so good.

Just picked up my new hydro cooler - it has the reinforcing washer set up and not the built up welds like yours. I would imagine the built up welds would be stronger but we'll see. I can't have the machine down any longer. I am going to have the old one Tig welded for a spare just in case.

I know these posts are 5 years old but I just wanted to thank everyone. My 03 TC40D developed a hydraulic leak and made a mess of the engine compartment. I was able to narrow down the problem to the hydro cooler and learned how to clean the area up thanks to the members on this site.

Just as a note my hydro cooler that failed has the washer design, the tractor has 1500 hrs on it. I am now heading out to purchase a new one.

KingLu, thanks for posting. If you could take a few photos (even with a cell phone camera) and post them, it would add to the info in this thread. I hope your replacement goes well. So far at 1700+ hours, mine is still holding, but I'd never be so foolish as to say it will never fail. I'd hope it, but never say it.;)
