Hydro's and brake pedals

Yeah, to say use cruise control is not the answer IMO.

To get the most out of skid steering you need infinite control over drive input at the same time,
especially in tight quarters, no way cruise control.

I was surprised at this also, my cruise disengages when the brakes are used. I would have thought that was standard.

I noticed this same problem on my Kioti. As such, I have never used the split braking and it bums me out. I am going to try the 2 foot driving bit and the cruise bit today and will report back. I think it is a huge design flaw to have the HST and brakes on the same side (shaking head as if to say "who the heck thought of that when they built this thing).

Having the brakes workable independent of the hydro was one thing that swung me to buy a JD (4010 in 2004). I can unlock the pedals and use them to steer, especially when the FEL is down and taking some weight off the front wheels so they don't steer or when the fronts are sliding on ice or snow.

Living on hilly terrain, I use the the brakes all the time when parked. The tractor will roll in gear on the hydro, especially in High range.

An engineer-designer that HAS NEVER OPERATED A TRACTOR IN WORKING CONDITIONS in his life. Anyway that is what I have seen with so many other things. You have design guys designing stuff that they know nothing about.

Heh heh! That's exactly what popped into my mind too, MtnViewRanch. :D What really gets me is when they go and change something that has been really working great and the "NEW! & IMPROVED!" one is 3 steps back. Change for the sake of change is not necessarily a good thing.

Two guys were working on a piece of equipment and having one terrible time because of the rotten design. The one fellow turns to his budy and says "I hope the &#%^# engineer that designed this *^$#@%&* thing is reincarnated and has to fix this ~$(^& in his next life!" His buddy looked at him and quipped "What do you think you were in your previous life?" :D:D:D

I haven't read through whole thread, but I can say I use the split brakes on the hydro all the time. I put my heel on the front of the treadle and my toe on the brake required. This is on Ford-1620, 1520 and NH-TC30.

Mace Canute, that is totally hilarious!:D

Mace Canute, I'm going to steal that joke and use it as my own.:D:D:D

I don't know how I'd operate my tractor without differential brakes. When I am using my FEL to cut into a side ridge, I step on the opposite brake to keep the front of the tractor from going into the ridge. Anytime I backdrag, I stabilize my direction with the brakes. When I am plowing, I make fine corrections in direction with the brakes rather than the steering wheel. If one wheel starts to spin, I step on the brake pedal for that side as a "poor man's differential lock" even though I have a differential lock available. All this use of the brake pedals is just 2nd nature to me from years of doing it on tractors. Heck, I'd guess pilots are a natural for brake steering after using rudder pedals.:)

Recently, I went to look at the New Holland Boomer 8N at the dealer. I was appalled to see only one brake pedal on the right side and one CVT pedal. There are no pedals whatsoever on the left side; no way to split the brakes. Just two pedals on the whole tractor. That convinced me that the only thing this tractor will ever be good for is pulling floats in parades.
