hyperlinks

Paul -

Make sure you don't have any space characters in there, especially between the "url=" and the "http:". That would cause the extra "http:" to be inserted. I know this 'cuz it happens to me periodically when I copy and paste the location. In this case it assumes you left off the "http" and inserts it for you, as BobT says.

Wonder if it would be possible for Muhammad to strip such white space before interpreting the tag? Wouldn't be the first time he saved us from ourselves. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Paul,
I think your biggest problem is that when you are typing in the http, your only following it with a colon and forgetting the two forward slashes. The BB software is then thinking you forgot the http:// part of the url and is adding it, sending your browser off looking for the web site at http://http:www.kingkutter.com, which doesn't exist. If you type in (url=http://www.kingkutter.com)click here(/url), substituting [] for the (), it should work, as it does here. It should also work if you leave out the http:// part altogether and just type in (url=www.kingkutter.com)click here(/url), as it does here.

Also as a suggestion - when composing a post or a reply, open another instance of Internet Explorer to get your urls and do your searches. Use this second instance to go to the web sites you want to hyperlink. Use <Ctrl-C> to copy the url to the clipboard, jump back to the Internet Explorer instance you opened first, and paste it in with <Ctrl-V>. This makes it easier to move around, and decreases the "Back" and "Forward" button use.

Way to go, Stephen!

If there's other stuff you want to test, keep in mind that you can always see your results by using the preview feature. That way, you can test yourself silly without actually posting the message.

I know 'cuz I been there, done that.

Hmmm... /w3tcompact/icons/hmm.gif Your technique is a good one, Doc, but how much is Bill Gates paying you? /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

I assume you really mean another window, not another instance, but the same approach works just fine with Netscape, Opera or any other browser.

Sorry, got my terms mixed up. The term "instance" has been used by our Computer Information Services division in reference to each session of our hospital's software - i.e. "you docs have got to stop running multiple instances at the same time - you're tying up all our Citrix nodes, the server farm times out, and the HNA won't take it!". I don't think they appreciate the blank looks we give them back. I'll do anything to decrease keyboard typing, mouse clicks, and the resulting hourglasses.
