i have a tape measure that is in a yellow plastic case, not a chromed metal one. i measure and then write the measurement on the case with a pencil. Measure, cut then wipe off the pencil mark and continue on.

OK, I am 70, and one thing I started doing at about 50 was that when I made a big mistake on a project, I quit for the day. Mistakes compound themselves, and once one thing goes bad, it just keeps on going that way.

The other thing I have noticed is that if I every go to a store for a common item they should have, and they are out, every place in 30 miles that should have one is also out. The internet is a wonderful thing. I can order stuff from Amazon and while I might not get it that day, I will get it.

1. I can't tolerate that much coffee. Fifteen minutes into the morning, I would be back in the kitchen. :D

2. Ain't that the truth! Happens all the time.

I am getting in the habit of forgetting measurements too. Now I am trying to develop the habit of writing down the measurement, either on the board, my palm, whatever. I have even taken I picture of the tape measure mark on my phone! I do more recording of things now on my phone especially things I need when I need to go to home depot or where I parked, or... I forgot but there are more.

WHAT! Good Lord Man, next you'll be asking directions... or, or, making a "list" and taking it with you to the grocery store.

Correct, it is not manly. Just enter the address on your phone and act like you knew how to get there :D

I have even taken I picture of the tape measure mark on my phone! .

I have lots of those on my phone. All I have to then remember is which picture of the tape measure goes with what. :D

I have found that the less distance between measuring and cutting increases my chances of getting it right. So I always set up the saw close to where I'm working.:) I can usually remember the number until I stand up.

There are two types of people that don't make mistakes, Bosses and people who don't do anything. I found that frequently they one and the same person:D

I learn by doing, and redoing & redoing....
I am a boss and I make all kinds of mistakes, ask my employees!
