Post 6, Paragraph 3

Thanks... I glossed over that, and got lost in the whirlwind of posts following. I will start my search, both used and local suppliers.

Lots of good info... thanks again for all the feed back... I'm glad we could give Richard something new to ponder... *grin*

BTW diesel, I grew up on the other side of the river from you. New Martinsville is part of my old stompin grounds, used to take dates to the drive in theater.

Buckeyefarmer: guess you haven't been back in town in a while, the drive-in got leveled and an apartment complex is there now... I remember going to the drive-in as a kid, saw 'On Golden Pond' and 'Raiders of the Lost Ark'. The bowling ally got torn down this past fall, building another motel there. The Viking Glass building is where i work, the company i work for owns it, thats our shop and office. Times they are a changin'.

I don't usually go thru that way anymore, but do recall the drive inn being gone. I used to take WV rt 7 from morgantown to New Martinsville, now I take the interstates and come down the ohio side of the river. Remember when the bridge had a toll, that's been gone a few years..lol
There's a guy from New Martinsville that hunts on my dad's farm. Think he works at the Natrium plant, old PPG plant.

Nice job on all the joist hangers. I've found that it's easier for me to install the joists first, then come back and install the hangers after they are in place.

Are those hangers the top mount kind or face mount only.

On the top mount kind, I like hanging all of them first with ONE nail in the top. That way you dont squeeze them too tight. Drop the joist in and add the rest of the nails.

For the flush mount kind, I agree with eddie, easier to go back through and add later

So you guys toenail the joists in place or what??

Depends on the hangar I am using and the design of the build.

Something like a deck perimeter or anywhere I can get to the back side of the leger, easily and be able to hold the joist right where I want it, I screw or nail in through from the backside to hold in place. Then add hangars later.

I try not to toe nail anything that is going to inter fear with the hanger. Cause toe nails go through the hanger later. But I really do like the top-mount kind. Assures all the joists are level and the same height, and easier to install the joists and hangars with that style IMO

Yep, I can see that. In Bryan's case he can't access the backside. He can't nail a 2x4 along the ledger to sit them on. If he's not going to toenail, how would he fasten them in place before installing the hangars??
