Well, many do. That guy is a multi millionaire! And a line up at his door.
You can say the same thing about Sam Walton... but nobody says his products are the best.

Kind of like making home fries. My Mom always boiled the potaoes first. I cut them up and throw them in the pan, and they taste as good. Why make extra work for yourself? Funny, I say that, because that's generally all I do!
Ha ha... me too. I find the the efficient way to do it about the time I am finishing.

I like the Miller online table but I still wish there was a conversion chart that showed what the numbers on my 211MVP gauges meant in terms of IPM and Voltage.

:anyone:

So are you saying you have no way of knowing your IPM or actual voltage?

Then the online calculator is of no value to you, correct? Im not familiar with that machine.

Yep, exactly. Here is my panel.

You tell me!
In fairness, on the inside cover I have this extremely handy chart... but I would still like to know IPM and Volts! :smiley_aafz:

I'm not complaining about the performance of this machine... it is far better than my capabilities no doubt. Just wish I knew the 'numbers'.

That's positively luxurious!

HF didn't waste any money on labelling stuff. There's just this inscrutable face plus a simple chart in the manual. I still haven't figured out my capabilities vs the machine's. :)

I bought these together ridiculously cheap, under $100 after adding the right plug etc. Earlier this week I chose to stick weld with the Grizzly (red) for a simple project, because that was simpler than experimenting to find the right settings on the HF. Prior owner - a hobbyist/experimenter/electronics tech, (mad scientist?) had made every mod to the HF he could find on YouTube and it welds nice ... but that's only after trial and error to find the settings for the specific project.

I just got some good tips from this thread. :)

Is it just me or does humidity play a factor? One day I'll use my MIG welder and get sweet results. The next day with no changes it seems like nothing welds nicely with the main difference being humidity. I realize wind can make a huge difference which is why I weld in a shelter but it is outside so I cannot control the humidity.

It would be nice to have a basic sheet on what settings to start with on my Everlast iMig140.

Most MIG welders have chart inside door for basic (ballpark) setting per metal thickness and wire size and whether GMAW or FCAW...

Funny thing about displays. Just because it appears numerically accurate, doesn't mean it is. Analogue to digital conversion often isn't accurate or linear.

Like above, what works for someone else will not necessairly work for you... We have one mig at work, it's an old (80's I think, 3 phase red, I don't know the model off hand...) Lincoln stick welder with a wire feed on top, it has all sorts of settings... Anywho, the wire speed and voltage knob settings from other people does NOT work for me most of the time, and I don't use that welder enough to remember what works best for me...

As for prep, I recommend it, welds are always better, I skip it depending on what I'm doing... If I'm using 6011 while stick welding I do enough prep to get a good ground and get an arc started unless I'm going for penetration and strength then I'll put more love into it. If I'm doing flux core just patching a mower deck I do no to minimal prep (other than good ground), and for 7018 rod I try to prep better, they won't cut rust like a 6011...

Door chart should be pretty darn close, maybe better the generic online calculator... Finds the values for my HH140 spot on...
