I like the Miller online table but I still wish there was a conversion chart that showed what the numbers on my 211MVP gauges meant in terms of IPM and Voltage.

Find IPM pretty much near mid range (50) on my welder just needs to tweak a bit with each change of voltage....

Believe Jody here has method for calculation IPM...

I don’t think Mark has any problems achieving the correct settings. I believe he wishes to know what the actual voltages and wire feed speeds are.

Just wondering if you've played around more with your mig? I have almost the same welder (255c). I might have missed it if you've already answered it but what size wire are you using. I run almost exclusively .035. I find that if the wire melting before reaching the weld it's usually one of a couple things. First is the voltage vs wire speed. Wire coming out too slow could be your problem. Secondly the drive rollers could be too loose or the wrong ones for the size wire you are using. Finally try to keep the the mig cable as straight as possible. You may need a new liner. Before replacing mine if I had a moderate bend in the cable sometimes the wire would bind just enough to slow down in speed.

Voltage on a miller is easy set at 18-20v for most welding and 180ipm. Mig on a miller and blushield gas is like a hot glue gun, very easy!

Fluxcore mig on the other hand is a real Pain, i have never been happy with the results.

Door chart should be pretty darn close, maybe better the generic online calculator... Finds the values for my HH140 spot on...

Dale, you are right! The 'door' settings are always spot on... sometimes I tweak based on dissimilar thicknesses but I am always in the neighborhood with a good weld. The settings seem to be a bit 'hot' so I seem to get great penetration. I just have to be carful on the edges or where there isn't much mass for heat dissipation.

I hear and understand your pain IT. I have a Miller stick welder.. I thought welding would be easy. MISTAKE!! I don't do enough welding to become proficient.

However, I have found a beautiful answer. On those few occasions when I do need welding to be done. I ask my neighbor to come over and do the welding. He HAS been certified and is a true master at welding. He will use my welder and sticks. The job turns out beautifully and is done correctly. That's all I can ask.

As payback - I go over with my M6040 - a very small tractor in his terms - and clean out his stock feeding pens.

 Right you are. It take's practice to put beads in right location. I need more practice because beads occasionally end up somewhere other than the joint.:duh:

I run 035 but have found that I have better results with silver colored wire over copper color. Maybe less oxidation if not used promptly. At certain times, everything in my shop is dripping wet from condensation, Not nice at all!

Most MIG welders have chart inside door for basic (ballpark) setting per metal thickness and wire size and whether GMAW or FCAW...

Dale

Not on my Everlast. Maybe the cheapest inverter model doesn't get one.
