Ok,I think I see the problem. It's either something minor, something major or it might be a combonation. Let's eliminate as many things as possible then concentrate only on what's left. You mentioned having good relations with one or more good welders. Why don't you ask one of them to weld something with your machine? If they can't do well, they will help figure out if the problem is caused by wire, gas or the machine. If and when they can run good beads, you try it with same settings to see what the result is. If you are still unable to lay good beads,at least you know it isn't the machine or consumiables. Leave the settings or at least write them down. Pratice on same material with same settings until you get the hang of it. You mentioned inability to see, have you had an eye test recently? Narrow it down so you know what you need and your frusteration level should lessen.

Now that sounds like a man that has solved a problem or two in his lifetime.. :) Scientific method... yep. works every time it is tried...

Yes, all good suggestions. I like the idea of having a "real" welder try my machine, but I take enough of their time already. I did run it past one this morning and he questioned a possible issue with my liner or feed roller settings.

Funny, I had issues with my Big three phase Lincoln, running off a converter.

A certified and life long welder used it to weld a very heavy chunk of pipe for me and thought it didn't have enough power.

Funny, I had issues with my Big three phase Lincoln, running off a converter at 600 volts.

SOLD that welder because the computer didn't like the fake phase and stopping and starting the rotary converter was a pain.

It's crazy and I know my electrical stuff, but I'd swear I was trying to run my welders off a cheap dollar store extension cord. That's the result I might expect. Any of the many welders I try at a friends ALL seem to have more oooomph!

I assume you have measured your input voltage under a load?

No. I am welding right in the garage where the 200 amp service comes in.

I don't have anyone here for a couple of weekends, but starting at the beginning and measuring it, would be a good idea. Maybe I can manage by myself. Weld and watch a meter.

You can use your phone to "watch the meter" you just need to weld.

Yes it can. As a matter of fact there’s a thread here on TBN that indicates even some members’ KIDS have cell phones!!!!!
