A decision has to be made. Defense. Offense. Once that decision is made secondary decisions have to be made. The list becomes extensive. It's very easy to get confused about the intent.
In my opinion the homeowner decided to go Offense. And then he did it in an irrational manner.
Once Offense was chosen the outcome is solely dependent on the decision the offenders make. I contend they thought anyone inept enough to expose themselves was of little threat.
The age, race, economic status, or any other category that you choose to put the offenders in is irrelevant.
If you pull a gun be prepared to live with the results.
