I declared war on Johnson grass

I have tried several herbicides to control Johnson Grass in a Bluestem hay meadow. By far the best I have used is Outrider herbicide. It will kill the Johnson Grass without harming the desirable grasses. Outrider will not control broadleaf weeds, so if you do not have Johnson Grass it won't work on much of anything else. It is most effective when the Johnson Grass is less than 18" tall although it will kill larger plants, just not as quickly. Outrider is granular and mixes with water. I apply at a rate of 2 oz. per acre. Once Johnson Grass has matured and gone to seed, it is very difficult to control as the seed can remain in the soil for a long time just waiting for the right growing conditions to re-sprout. Took a look today and most of the Johnson grass is turning brown. I値l let it go a bit further so I can see better what was hit/missed and hit the rest. Since it was in seed I have no doubt I値l have to fight again next year, but looks like I found a good tool.

I値l definitely let you all know. My speed was well under 5 mph, probably closer to 2 mph. I wanted it on pretty good. I could see the dampness on the leaves as I drove, not saturated, but at the concentration I used, it didn稚 need to be soaked.

Does the herbicide not get transferred to desirable grass when the tires run over?

I believe it comes in a granular now as well.
I will look for the granular form. By the way, the lady that cuts my hair has a property she is developing. She plans to plant clover as a ground cover instead of lawn. I guess I just need the manicured look.

I’m seeing very little evidence of that right now. I think the amount of liquid was so small there was very little to track around. The concentration does the work.

A year late I have basically no remaining Johnson grass. This was well worth the time and effort.

You will be fighting that seed supply for the rest of your life.
You should take Ken up on his offer to trade you foxtail. At least that is not a rhyzome producer.
Anyone need some kudzu?
