Man, I don't know about that one. I've been here 20 years and I'm still not acclimitized to Texas. Still, I suppose I'm a product of 100's of thousands of years of evolution for living in a country where 70 degrees during the summer is a heat wave and if it hits 80, people start fainting. When I go outside to work, I know I'm going to be soaking wet so there's no sense worrying about it. It has nearly got me into trouble a couple of times though.

I've worked all along the Gulf Coast and the heat and humidity are pretty bad although why anyone would choose to live in Florida during the summer is totally beyond me. The only 2 places I've been that are worse are West Africa (and that's real close) and the Amazon jungle.

I've often told my wife to forget about the space program and all that other stuff, the 2 greatest American inventions are air conditioning and the shower. I don't think I could live here during the summer without either one.

Don't feel bad, we leave ours on for the guppies, as in little fish. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Since I've been around this area all my life, I guess you could say I was acclimated to it, but the older I get the more un-acclimated I get. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif I just really do not like the hot weather.

Current conditions:Temp: 55° Dew Point: 52°
Humidity: 88% Wind: NW 7 mph...ahhhh, perfect weather for a little outdoor activity.

I spent the first 20 years of my life in Texas (got a sister in your neighborhood Bird) and I don't plan on any summer vacations there.

I been in "dry heat" like Saudi Arabia and in Sierra Leon where it feels like the rain just hangs in the air (not unlike Houston) and I think I've found a pretty good place to finish out my time. Not much more than 75º in the summer and about 40º in the winter.

Yep, Larry, 55 to 60 degrees is just perfect for me. I do believe you've found a fine place to live.

Re: I don\'t know how you guys handle the humidity!

Having been born and raised in Houston I agree it is the worse. No wonder it has been called the most air conditioned city in the world. I have lived elsewhere but always came back to Houston. I only left because of the traffic and congestion.

( North Texas is pretty bad, but Houston is much worse. I go to Moab Utah and my fingers crack from the lack of humidity. I have to keep neosporin close by at all times. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif )

Oh, good old Moab! I spent about 3 years in Salt Lake - it's not QUITE as dry. Nice place to live, really. I liked it a lot, but I LOVE Virginia! More green!

Try Bag Balm on your hands - the stuff is GREAT. Coconut oil is terrific for healing, but Bag Balm is better protection.

Re: I don\'t know how you guys handle the humidity!

I use ceiling fans all the time and leave the air conditioner set on 78-79 during the day and 72-73 at night. It's really not that bad.

Bird be careful what you wish for. You could be here in an Ohio winter without a snowblower in the deep white powder. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: I don\'t know how you guys handle the humidity!

Fans moving 78 air don't help me. We do about 70 during the day and 63-65 at night, and a fan blowing directly on me. Then cover up. The best way to sleep.

I had to have a contraption put on my outside A/C unit to keep it from freezing up when we are running it during the winter. It has to build up some head pressure before the fan outside comes on.

If you ever let it get 80 in the house around here you'll never get it back to 70 until October. So we leave it set pretty low even when we aren't here.
