Most Grandpa's have been around the block more than once... heed his advice and get the 30hp that will do what you need. You're blessed to have a grandpa that is looking out for you !!!

I'm with Grandpa on this too for some obvious reasons, when you work a job you are paid for what you accomplish. It doesn't matter to the customer how long it takes you (within reason, if you are there too long it might be inconvenient to them) to perform the work their concern is that you do a good job. I would think your Grandpa is very familiar with your jobs and knows you could get them done faster with a larger tractor.

A 30 hp tractor would run my tiller and auger with more ease and when i would install a FEL it would have more capabilities over a FEL on my 19hp Yanmar tractor.

What is the maximum you would be wanting to lift with the FEL?

Basically, my grandpa says that I wouldnt be to pleased with the capabilities a FEL on my Yanmar would be over a 30 hp tractor. He says that my auger and tiller are too big for my Yanmar and if i got a 30 hp tractor I could use those implements with ease rather than putting so much strain on the Yanmar. I currently have over half the $$$ to build a FEL and i am gaining every day im at work (I help build pole barns). If i sold both my tractors and used all the $$$$ from summer jobs I would have roughly $8500 to work with.

Had to sound like the voice of reason or your mom, but hadnt you better save some. What if you buy that tractor and work needs to be done, or you want to take a girl out. You have exhaused your savings and what you earn will just slowly float in at what you make at your age. But man kids must make more than i did 14 years ago when i was your age. I never has 8K and i did not buy tractors and such either. My point is when i was your age i worked as well in the summer then during school for awhile. I did not have to buya car as one was given to me by faimily. But i did buy all my own gas several grand a year did all the maintence myself or paid what i did not have skill or tools to do, and paid my own insurance. You probly want to drive a car to so you might think about saving for other expenses besides just something you want in the future. NOw if you have jobs with the tractor that will pay for like half of the thing that is different. I dont know your parents or what they will or wont give you as far as $$ support but if you were my child i would strongly advise against it. Thats just me though i am like a squirrel i always like to have money stored somewhere just incase. No reason you should listen to me though.

Trust me you will have all the time in the world to buy stuff after highschool or college if you choose the latter route.And hey there is only so much you can do with one, the small yanmar will do stuff but slower you have more time to play, i mean work, now so no big deal but as you get a job (fulltime) or are in school and work you will have less which is where doing the work faster with a large tractor will pay off.

Do what you want, just think of all the other things that take money, Car, girls, gas for car/truck, boat gas, guns, chlothes etc. etc.

You used it basically for free, and now going to try and make money after using it for a year. I like your thinking you understand capitalism at 14, if only others in our country could get this idea through there head who are 3 times your age.

i spend about 3k for it but also bought some new parts for it which add up quickly.

What is the maximum you would be wanting to lift with the FEL?

Not quite sure yet but I do have a LOT of dirt work to do and a bit of gravel to move. Probably around 800-1000 pounds depending on the Loaders capabilities.

I just saw your post and I have to agree with the group here. I would listen to your Grandpa. It may work better for you in the long run as you will be able to take on bigger jobs and maybe get a rotary cutter and do some cutting jobs. It sound like you have come to the right conclusion. Keep us posted we like to hear about your tractor adventures and look at your drawings. Don't hesitate to ask a good price for your machine if the price is to high you can always come down.

Tractors are cheaper than girls. Heck, almost anything is cheaper than women.

Just like anything, you have to pick the right one. I did and been with her for over forty-five years. She likes tractors, guns, ATV/UTV, hunting, cooking and actually talked me into my last two tractors.
