The gun debate goes on forever. I own over 60 guns. Probably have 20,000 rounds of ammo on hand. Have won competitions on both state and national levels. Have a CCW permit and carry. I probably wouldn't fare well if I did have to use deadly force, BUT if it came down to my or my family's safety, better believe the lead will be flying.

Is this smart, maybe, maybe not. But sooner or later we better be taking back some rights or we all loose any way.

Bottom line, I guess i'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

Eddie,

Interesting. I used to work in East St. Louis. Not at all a pretty place to be. But at the plant, there were old guys that used to live a couple blocks away and walk to work. They explained that the city started giving away housing to the poor, giving away money to the poor, giving away this that and the other. Naturally, taxes started to climb - then rocket up as more people came in with no intention of ever being other than poor and getting all the free stuff. Crime went up and up and out went the working slobs that lived in a 1200 sq ft house 2 blocks from the plant. That was in the late '50s and early '60's. I was there was in the early '80's. My second day on the job a DB* was dropped off on the front steps of the factory. Nice.

When we had a big production run the new kid (me) was elected to work the 6pm to 6am shift. As the last guy was leaving me alone for the night, he suggested I close the blinds of the 2nd story lab where I was working. Why? was my question. " 'cuz they like to shoot at white faces". That was from a buddy of mine that lived in the projects 1/4 mile from the plant.

*DB is short for Dead Body. He had taken a couple 12 ga rounds to the face at close range. yuck.

Until the punishment equals the crime... I'm not optimistic much will change.

Some thieves look at going to jail as a little rest and relaxation and a time to get all their medical work done.

In Oakland, we had several very effective police officers that really made a difference in cleaning up street crime and they had the full backing of residents and business. That all stopped when they were prosecuted as being too heavy handed and in one case the officers lied and said drugs that were found on the ground were found on the person of a repeat neighborhood drug dealer with a long criminal record. The officers are no longer Oakland cops and the Drug Dealer won a settlement from the city. Just ask any Officer how they feel about lawyers and the legal system...

When I caught a thief at 2 AM who had broken into the Hospital Administration building and pursued him... The Officers, off the record were elated... they said this thief was looking at his third strike... On the record, the Officers told me that I had used poor judgement in going after the thief.

The thief got his third strike and then his attorney summoned me to court in the thief's defense alleging Abuse of Force because when he didn't come out from his hiding place, the police sent in a police dog to get him...

Eddie... maybe what Oakland needs is a little "Texas Justice"

Well I'll add this to the mix I guess. Easter Sunday, and yours truly was pulling my train through Youngstown Ohio. Beautiful, sunny day I might add. As we pass one of the local scrapyards there, I notice out my window,,,, a Toyota pickup, parked along the backside of the business, and two "hardworkin" fellas just loading scrap to their hearts content. Now, I'm no Rhoades scholar,, but I'm guessing they were stealing scrap on Sunday,, and planned to resell it back to the scrap company on Monday. Pretty enterprising I thought. Then, we get less then a mile down the tracks,, and there sits a local cop, parked in some brush, behind an old warehouse, taking his afternoon nap. Frankly, I had to find it comical. Sad, but comical !!

As someone posted before, you guys just better be smart. One word of advice, from my lawyer. No matter in the house, outside, by the barn, wherever. One thing that works is the following. "He threatened me with my life, he told me he was going to kill me!" Now I do know it's your word vs. the criminals word, but I've never heard a man deny it that couldn't breathe. Just don't shoot him in the back.

I took 2 tons of scrapmetal from the farm a couple of weeks ago to the newly opened scrapyard in Kempner Texas. There was two types of folks there selling scrap, ones who obviously needed the money for food and shelter, and ones who had the "look". The scrapyard office buyer was behind bullet proof glass and paid cash thru a small metal opening.

I didn't know, but in Texas you gotta show ID to sell copper, brass, but not iron and steel. I would have never known this but the fellow in front of me at the scrap office "forgot" his ID and could not sell his "scrap" copper (rolls of unused electricians wire in the back of his truck)
