Cowboy up. My Kubota has been outdoors since 1984, never seen shade EVER. Also people don't buy tractors on how shinny they are. It will always hold it's value. Mine is worth more today that when I bought it.

Put a car port off the existing garage :) I made one for my boat and it's great. Not too hard or expensive.
We call it the "Boat Port".

Charge him to park indoors, ( he'll think twice about it then) or have him help you build a car port for his car.;)

I'd like to hear more about this car that is displacing an 8yr old, as new, Kubota. It must be something. It certainly must be better than my first set of wheels. It was pretty beat up when I got it and was worse when I sold it to the wrecker a year or two later. We should have a survey on how long we kept our first car. With a few exceptions I reckon the average time would be pretty low.

True, mine was a rolling wreck....but this is a very different time, where kids want for very little (not saying this applies to the OP, just an old fart ranting) I admit I do spoil my son (17) but I also think he works for what he gets, currently ranked #2 in his high school in grades....not something usless like football or something but GRADES. I have tried to teach him that with his new girl friend that love is better then sex. He is 17 and trust me there is a great deal of life ahead of you....and every choice you make has an impact on where that life is going. Get a 16yr old girl knocked up, your options are going to get very limited.....your letters from the Air force Academy and VA will go away. The life you want will be gone and you will be selling chairs for the rest of your life.

Having everything handed to you, including a great parking spot can just be another bit to a wrong message.

Now all that said, if father and son worked together for 3 years putting that first car together that is another thing, blood, cussing, laughing under a car is also something that goes farther then getting him back and forth to school.

I am going to quit there.....I can tell already I am way crazy.

Car outside, tractor inside!
But if you do keep the tractor outside- use a tarp to cover all of it- over the rops. But don't have the tarp reach the ground. You want it to breathe and have air flow- prevents rust. Bungee cords are useful. Shelterlogic is an alternative. I have this one for my tractor and it sheds snow very well.
Garage-in-a-Box SUV/Truck:ShelterLogic
I have this same Shelter Logic garage in a box, great investment. It was about $500 delivered and holds a lot of stuff besides my tractor. I ran underground power to it for the block heater. 3 winters so far and it's held up well under a lot of snow - and we get a lot of it!

Not going to get into the parenting comments like a few others here. Talk about off topic!

Years back I read an ag dept study that showed the advantage of putting machinery under cover. They compared resale prices of equipment in similar mechanical condition but had been stored either inside or outside and weathered or not. Bottom line was it paid to store equipment under cover and even an average sized farm could, in effect, have the storage building for "free" by getting higher resale prices on equipment at trade in time.

Very true, same goes with just about anything, My father in law just learned this when shopping for a used JD lawn tractor. No way in the world is the same machine in the same shape with the same hours going to be worth the same if it has been stored outside vs one stored inside.

with everyone else, tractor inside, car outside.

if tractor had a cab, ok outside possibly. but no cab *shakes head no* more so if you will need to move snow. no fun at all, trying to clean off seat full of snow, and the gauges. and then get a wet numb rear, the little time ya out dealing with snow. then spring, fall, (warm but not warm enough) and having a wet cold rear, were ya pants and underwear riding every move you make.

tractor has a lot more stuff that does not age that well vs a car. tires for tractor much more costly vs a car/truck ((tractor tires may last years, while car tires 1 or 2 years)). hydraulic hoses, can and do age/crack from sun, gauges on tractors are more in direct sunlight and fade out vs a car.

==============
if there is more of an issue of simply not enough driveway / parking space. and seeing tractor does not get used that much. find a spot right off driveway, and start parking the kids car in the yard. if muddy, bring in some drive way rock. ya going to need more parking space with kids friends start showing up, might as well deal with it. part of having a kid. and being a teen with a car and parking outside.

if kid gets a job, and going to school. they will be coming home late. do ya really want to hear the garage door opening up, and waking you up? get yourself some good sound sleep. and if need be swap out one or more outside lights with "motion detection lights" hopefully kind that you can leave on just for motion sensing and will go off after a few minutes, and then if wanted double on/off so lights stay on, till ya turn lights off/back on once, to turn them back to motion sensing lights that turn off after a few minutes. ((other words double clicking / single clicking of a mouse, but with the light switch)).

How about a little tough love as well? That's how kids learn to succeed.

I recall watching a NASCAR show a few years ago and I think it was Richard Petty telling the story of how he was a kid, just got into NASCAR and would actually race against his father. It was one of the kid's first races and he was getting close to the finish with only his father in front of him. It was neck and neck and as they got close to the finish the boy managed to pull even with his father.

The kid figured he was good as gold because dad started to slow down but just as he started to pass his dad rammed him into the wall and dad won the race. The kid was bewildered that his father could do that do him but dad later explained if he let him win he would have done him a great disservice because that's not how the real world functions and he wanted him to be the winner he knew he was.

Anyway, I guess Richard Petty learned the lesson.
