What I don't understand is why we have not locked this thread and moved on....:confused:

Becasue it is an interesting read going from green and orange comparisons to
smooth bore muzzles, submarines. motgages, global markets, american business dealings. government backings and purchasing power.

It proves that tractor owners/operators and business men/women associated with tractors are keen to the workings of the world, not just the dirt or crop underneath.

Happy New Year to all.

It's the same with the "Honda Hydrogen Car" post. I clicked over there thinking I would read about a hybrid vehicle, and they were rattling about some outdated C++ computer programing logic or codes or something.

See... I knew there was a reason why I had not bothered to open that thread....:D

If I'm not mistaken, corporations are owned by stockholders, not the country of origin. I'd be willing to bet that at least one of you owns stock in a foreign corporation.

So where do the profits really go?

One good reason, not concidering price, is the money stays in a United States of America company.

Sorry there jwnge, but John Deere is about as American as Toyota. They do make about 10% of their model line in the US, but the other 90% are a global congolomerate, right down to the tires.

The electronics are japanese as is the motor; the tires are now produced in Brazil (Titan was recently sold) ... the rest of the machine comes from other locations .... John Deere Made in the USA is a thing of the past mostly.

Just curious....Where do these figures come from?

According to Deere's 2006 10-K report;

  • 69% of the manufacturing square footage
  • 58% of their employees
  • 76% of their operating profit

are in/from operations in the US and Canada.

Mike's numbers come from JD's 2006 10-k which should be public domain and easily verified. I also would be interested in the source of Doug's numbers.

It is illegal for a US citizen to hold stock in a foreign corporation, all you can hold is an ADR, otherwise you are a criminal.......
