I've been running a 5 foot Rhino for 7 years on a 20 PTO HP tractor. No problems.

Where does the Rhino fall on the Chevy to Cadillac scale? What kind of Warrantee on the gear box?

As a company, I believe Rhino is up there with the Caddys. I assume they make several grades of mowers but they are generally comparable to Bush Hog, Landpride and Woods.

I bought a 5' Wallace Auto made in Illinois. I guess you would call it light to med cutter,I love it and it was cheap under $600.00. As far as the clutch / shear pin, I use both clutch and shear pin. Clutch was around $45.00.

Wow.. a 45$ slip clutch? Where at.. all the ones I see are 75$ to 150$. About the only thing inthe 45$ range are the ORC's... and they aren't helpfull in these situations.

Soundguy I got mine 1.5 to 2 years ago, I checked they are up to 60 bucks. Here is the link. I get stuff from these guys all the time no problems so far. ORC's are still starting at 45.95

So I bought the Woods 60". I drove over an hour after renting a trailer to go get this thing. When I get there I find a sticker on the gearbox saying 3yr warranty not 5yr plus there is no front safety chain or rubber guard. I was running late after getting stuck on two lane road in first a Hot Rod Rally and then a Motorcycle Rally. The store employee stayed 30 min past closing waiting for me to get there. They were supposed to have a 48" unit and 60" available to look at but only the 60" was there and it was last years model. He was in a rush, quite gruff and I had spent time and money getting there so I bought it paying $1300.00 plus tax. I usually am not stupid enough to impulse buy but I did. The more I think about it the madder I get. 1300.00 in my mind is not that good a deal much less on a on a left over. (The warranty on any older unit sold as new now is extended to 5yr) It also galls me to think that I don't even get the safety flaps for my $1300. I have not run it and am so tempted to return it. Am I being stupid or did I give away the farm on this deal?

Did you buy the standard duty 60 or medium duty 600?

According to this person selling their Woods 60 on eBay, they paid $1250 new. It had the 5-year warranty on the gearbox.

For a last year model, with the lesser 3-year gearbox warranty, it seems to me that this price should have included the front/rear chains. Perhaps others know better than I.

Is it worth the hastle to drive back and return it just to possibly save $50 to 100 somewhere else? You should check around for the best price on the same Woods unit. If there is a major price difference, perhaps you could try to get them to throw in the chain guards or sell them to you at a deep discount???

It's a nice rotary cutter regardless. In the mean-time, put it to use and you will start to feel better about it.

Like all the major brands, Rhino sells a Yugo, Chevy, Caddy, and Mercedes version of just about every sized mower. Their SUPER HEAVY DUTY commercial grade mowers are second to none. (Shulte and Alamo brands are essentially Rhino. Bush Hog and Bush Whacker brands are Rhino's real competition in the Super Duty lines) Heavy -duty, mid-duty on down through light duty (standard duty?) are comparable to Bush Hog/Woods/ect. No better, no worse. All have features that can make a difference in how they fit into YOUR plans. My only real complaint with Servis/Rhino is the LACK of dealer network in this area. I can't speak for other parts of te country, but here in Kentucky, Rhino dealers are few and far between. By having many more dealers available for Bush Hog and Woods, there's a far better likelyhood of getting a good deal due to the increased competition.
