No blurry lines.

I'm glad you see it that way. I think I know someone else who thinks life is like that too.

Didn't you yourself say that when a terminal crashed you picked one up and replaced the bad one. Sounds pretty portable to me. I think to most people who can see that the world isn't just black and white your very own word (portable) is a pretty vague term itself. Maybe you'd like to define it narrowly for us???

Sheesh.

I see your sheesh and raise my eyebrow at you. Twice.:rolleyes:

The problem is there are distinct differences between desktops, workstations, laptops and servers. There may be overlap of internal components, but each has its very own space in the personal and corporate world.

Perhaps this is where the conversation should end. The difference between what is personal and what is dictated by others.

Sounds good. I'm speaking form a corporate angle. My employer gives me the tools to do my job. They own the machine, the software and the work I produce on it.

At home, its all mine. :)

Portable in the sense that it was relatively easily transported from point A to point B, yes. Portable in the sense that it could perform it's intended functions most anywhere the user wanted to take it, no. The latter to me is what would make a computer truly portable.

And I like black and white....the last time I saw blurry lines I had to have laser surgery. Seriously.:(

For computers?

You will see bio-computers. nano-technology will allow you to interface with your computer. It will draw power from you, and project itself through you onto networks and into applications. It will be "on" and connected "by your command". Displays will be both projected into your eye or shared via holographics. Data transfers will be by touch or radio frequency. Storage will be by embedded or external sources. Embedded meaning injected into you.

The first portable computer I worked on was in 1984ish. The system was OLD then since I think it was built in the 70's. The system was about 24 inches deep 15-18 inches wide and about 6-8 inches tall. It had a built in B&W monitor, keyboard and the big cartridge tape drives.

With the flick of a swich you could run APL or BASIC. :D

It was an IBM 5100 PC.

It was portable because PC stood for Portable Computer.:D:D:D:D

I never moved the system. It was heavy. :D

I can easliy predict that in the future computer systems will be smaller, faster, lighter, and cheaper. They will use less power/MIP and cost less per MIP. :D:D

They also will be more and more a part of our daily existence which is hard to imagine. My cellphone has more memory in it than all of the first four or five systems I have owned combined. WE will likely be wired in a few more years.

Later,
Dan

I can't wait to be wired. Imagine I could interface with my pickup, my blackberry & my Ipod. I'm like a walking talking Bluetooth
