kubota l3650
Ok, I was to lazy to walk out and check the tire size on my Kubota l3650 the other day. I ended up checking the manual and ordering 8-16 AG tires for the front. Well, as I was removing the front tires to replace, I noticed the size difference. Current tires are 10-16.5. I'm not worried about buying another set of tires. I just want to know why the wheels and tires are bigger than the manual and internet specifications. Is my driveline already out because of these bigger tires. My fear is that they were replaced by a previous owner. Kubota dealer says they are supposed to be 8-16 tires. Should I buy new rims to match factory size or should I buy new tires and keep it the way it is? Just concerned about my driveline at this point. Thanks, Henry

That only tells us half of the puzzle.

What size do you have on the rears? And what size is called for in the manual??

It is possible that they upsized BOTH the front AND rears, in which case, drive-line may be fine and you need to get the bigger tires o the front to match the rears that are oversized.

Ok, that makes sense. The Manual calls for 8-16 front and 13.6-26 rear. I currently have 10-16.5 front and 17.5l-24 rear. You could be right about both being changed because I can't find any other examples of these sizes on a l3650. The big question is, do I have a proper front to back ratio. I have never felt any binding or trouble out of the current setup. I will more than likely buy the 10-16.5 tires for the front. If someone has a formula for calculating this ratio, please let me know. I just want to get it right. I also may have some 8-16 tires for sale soon. I can't send them back to the auction. No big deal Thanks, Henry

Alright, after looking through Kubota's Illustrated Parts List, I have learned that the L3650DT-GST came with 4 different tire setups. The dealer told me they only had one size tire setup, but he didn't really look at the parts list. Time for a new dealer. Anyway, the following are the different tire setups that you will find on the L3650DT-GST. The first is what is listed in the owners manual the second is what I have on the tractor. If you ever run into this problem, just look on the Kubota website and find out. Thanks
Front 8-16 Rear 13.6-26
Front 10-16.5 Rear 17.5L-24
Front 212/80-D15 Rear 355/80-D20
Front 21.5l-16.1 Rear 29xX12.50-15

I think the difference here is the 10-16.5 and 17.5-24 combo you have is the R-4 (industrial) tread pattern.

And the 8-16 and 13.6-26 combo is for the R-1 (ag) tread pattern.

Your rears currently are the industrial pattern right?? (like found on backhoes?)

The 8-16's you bought.....were they Ag's??

Yes, they are the r1 AG pattern.

Yes, they are the r1 AG pattern.

Which ones? the new ones you bought and cant use?

Or your old ones that are 10-16.5 and 17.5-24?

Cause the 10-16.5 and 17.5-24 is typically R4 industrial sizing.

The new (8-16) tires are the AG R1 Lug pattern. The old ones are 10-16.5 R4 industrial. I think I understand. The rim is the same, but the tires are sized differently between styles.

So they will fit, right?

The magic number you are looking for to see if the new tires are OK for your 4WD system is the rolling circumference. Find the rolling circumference of the old tire. The new tire should be the same +/- 0.5 inch for it to match your gear ratios and give the proper front end lead.
I don't know about mixing Ags and Industrials someone else will need to help you there.

The circumference is +.02 with the new AG tires. Over time the wear will bring it down, but the rear tires will also be wearing, just at a slower rate. I am fine with the rolling circumference using the new 8-16 tires, my initial worry was that the 10-16.5(F) 17.5L-24(R) setup was not from the factory. I know now the setup is original and the rolling circumference of the new front (8-16) AG tire will work, but I don't know if a 8-16 R1 AG tire will replace a 10-16.5 R4 Industrial tire. I just don't want to try to stretch the 8x16 over a wheel that should be 16.5 according to the tire. I would think the sizes would be the same between patterns, but if they are not, I could use this tire. I guess I'll have to do some more research and find out if the different factory tire sizes all had the same size wheels. Thanks, Henry

Regard rolling circumference. IT"S NOT A BIG DEAL. Many tractors have what's called "Front wheel assist" and the fronts run Faster than a perfect match

Tractors Usually run on soft ground, they turn right and left One wheel goes farther than the other. NO BIG DEAL.

It's OK if they tear up the ground a little.

But get tires you like the looks of, because they last a long time....

16 & 16.5 ARE NOT THE SAME. One is normally a tube type and the other tubeless. Do not try to mount the wrong bead pattern.

That's exactly what I thought and why I already listed the tires in the private party ads. Kubota's part diagram doesn't show any difference in the wheels, but the tires should dictate the rims actual size. Well, I guess I am going to buy a new set of 10-16.5 tires tonight. If anyone is interested, the 8-16 R1 AG tires are listed in the private party ad forum. From now on, I will check the tractor when ordering parts and not just the manual. Lesson learned. Thanks for all your help, Henry.

The rims are most definitely not the same. The R-4 rims are wider and larger in diameter.

Don't feel too badly. I did the same thing last year. In my haste to buy tires for my Massey, I ordered what was listed in the specifications when my tractor was being restored. Got my beautiful tractor back from the painter only to discover I had the wrong size, and they were rears, so $500 each. I discovered that many tractor models can be equipped with various tire configurations. Luckily, I sold my new tires and did not get burned. Hope you can also!
