PHD and rear blade are the 2 I get the least use out of, but I bought them both from my dad for $100 and he threw in an 8' piece of 16" double wall plastic culvert! I'm not sorry I bought them. I'm pretty sure I could get at least $500 for the PHD and rear blade now. The culvert is currently buried in the ditch behind my house, so it's not for sale ;)

...When I got married, my wife had a PHD also. ....

Ahhhh - true love. :D :D :D Wish my wife came with a post hole digger. At least she's still talking to me after I ordered the new tractor

There is the odd moment when I consider all tools superfluous. Without the work making work savers there would definitely be more time available to enjoy the world around us!:D :D :D

Might even be able to go on a bicycle tour of the Danube.:D

I had a college teacher that always was talking about "the insatiable nature of man.":) At the time, I didn't understand:cool:

Ouch, I can understand how that could happen but what were you doing. I would think that you had an issue with the 3 point are before you ripped it apart. I know with my box blade I work with it at a rather slow speed so I can see what I am hooking with it. Sorry to hear that happened

I snagged a rock about 4' across. The rear tire was parked on the rock and I meant to back up, but rolled forward and the left scarifier grabbed on real tight. I think the twisting motion pulled the pin out of the 3/8" metal. On inspection, the pin did not have real heavy weld penetration from the factory. I re-welded a new pin and then beefed up the metal around the pin. Bush hogged today and all was well. Guess I'll test it with the BB later in the week. I'm sure it was "operator error"

Thanks for the reply.

I don't have much stuff for my tractor but man I just had to have a quick hitch from harbor freight when this site was on fire about those. Thought it was ANSI compatible so all my toys would hook right up....Wrong. Its in the barn collecting dust.

Bought mine on Friday and returned it on Monday. NOW that was worthless!

Any 3-point Post Hole Digger is next to worthless in my opinion. I had a Bush Hog 2102 with a 12" auger that I had plans to drill numerous holes with.

As plans changed, I only drilled 12 holes with the PHD before trading it in as a down payment on a JD L130 lawn tractor.

Connecting and disconnecting a 3-point PHD is a royal pain in the butt, and they aren't quick-hitch compatible. The dealer describes connecting and disconnecting a PHD as "Wrestling with an octopus." Excellent analogy! Where I live, bentonite soils are real common and I call the stuff claycrete. I got my PHD stuck 4' down where the gear box was at ground level. Unlike a hydraulic PHD, a PTO PHD can't be reversed to back the auger out. I thought I was going to have to flag down a guy with a real backhoe or front end loader to pull this thing out; but I managed to rock the auger back and forth a bit to extract the auger with the lift arms.

If I need more post holes, I will hire someone to do it or rent a hydraulic PHD, or if I get the itch to own a PHD again...it WILL be a hydraulic powered unit.

PTO roller pump... just hangs in the garage on the wall... don't have a large enough source of H2O to feed it!

Wow, what a great post. You guys just saved me a bunch of money. I too wanted to buy a PHD for my recent fence/arbor project but opted for a one-man 2 cycle unit instead(about $220.00) I seldom have much help nearby and figured changing out the 3 pt PHD was going to be a b_tch by myself. Most of the time I just have 1 or 2 post to set anyway and didn't want the hassle. Here's a pic of my fence project.
