The last 2 sheriff's we've had would sign, though the most recent one wanted me to come in, interview me, and had a background check done on me ( no biggie ).. but he signed for everything I'v wanted.. silencers included.

I had a buddy that lived in miami.. his sheriff wouldn't sign.. nor would a chief of police, or a judge.. or Da.. etc. He ended up having to form a corporationIE "special occupational taxpayer", and was able to bypass the Cheif leo signature.. Hard way to do it, as he has to maintain his corp to keep the goodies.. or else he needs to move somewhere where a sheriff will sign, get them registered to his name.. then move back.. etc..

5$ .. nice.. must be the 'any other weapon' category? Wouldn't be a SBS would it?

The ATF agent I talked to said I could carry in a commercial vehicle, so I asked if it was ok to carry class III in a commercial vehicle. He said no problem, but we both agreed it would be a major problem when you crossed the state line, since you have to fill out another form and submit it, with class III.
That CLEO's signature is just another form of gun control. We had a sherrif that wouldn't sign, despite the fact that it was legal here to own class III.
Finally got rid of him, and got one that would sign. Current one won't sign for a silencer, but most other stuff is ok.
The sherrif that signed for my silencer only did so because I was well recommended by someone he knew well, and the fact that it was part of a deal to get a gun, the silencer just came with it. (for an extra $200 permit)
The Stakeout I bought is a very good thief determent, and the permit for it was only five dollars. It is very much more distructive than the machinegun (.223) ever thought of being.

I like to take the rotor out from under the distrubitor cap. Odds of a thief having the propper part are slim, and without it the trctor will not run. Mike

Mike, Yes, your tractor will not run but that wouldn't stop its being loaded on a trailer. Whether or not removing the rotor is sufficient is a matter of how desirable your tractor is and other factors. For us folks with popular diesel tractors, we need other means. I personally lean toward a remote alarm that works with my house alarm.

If I took time to do exactly what I like I'd have a silent alarm that notifies me when I am available and sets off both a local alarm and my home security system when I am not available. This gets law enforcement involved if I am not there to take action. So far so good, the tractor has never been touched. I did lose a trailer but replaced it for $50 (my deductible.)

Ordinarily making something harder to steal than most other similar possessions at other nearby locations is all that is required to considerably reduce your chance of loss to theft. Removing the rotor helps with that but if for some reason a bad guy targets your tractor (for parts or who knows what) not being able to drive it away from the scene is not much protection. Wouldn't you think most tractor thieves use trailers rather than drive the tractor away? A trailer with a good winch will load a darned big load even if the loads tires are not turning and are flat.

Heck... I don't think my wich has ever pulled a tractor up on a trailer that DIDN"t have flats! (grin)

It is the old addage, if they want something they will figure a way to take it. Wondering what ideas people have come up with to keep their tractor and implements around when you don't have the luxury of a locking barn..

I had a trailer stolen a while back and am considering one of these-http://www.dewalt.com/us/products/tool_detail.asp?productID=10784

I left my rotary mower set outside for a couple years and had a skunk move in under it for a nice dry home... nobody ever bother that implement.

A few wraps of bare copper around the steering wheel and connect to the fence charger. For added fun and "Huevos Rancheros", grounded aluminum foil on the seat. Don't forget to put the "DANGER Electrocution Hazard" signs to appease your lawyer.

Shoot 'em.........I would hate to live in one of these commie lib states that think these dirt bags thieves have rights. I already have a hole dug just the right size for the dirt bag that gets caught stealing my stuff or breaking into my house.

Don't forget to put the warnings in Spanish.

Insure it, then just HOPE it gets stolen.

No luck so far...
