Dennis,
The cats are all still in the first pond. I put about 30 Mosquito Fish in the new pond last week. I need to put the minnow trap in the first pond again to catch more Mosquito fish to transfer. Also need a couple of pounds of Fathead minnows. I'll wait awhile for the pond to settle more before putting in cats. Besides, this pond is mainly for ducks, where they can sleep safe on the island. Booger does not like water, so no swimming dog going after ducks.
hugs, Brandi

Sounds like a great plan, ducks will sure like it.. Might drive Booger nuts though:laughing:

Ducks are cool. We had Mallard ducks and Pheasants when I was little......and we had a small duck pond also.

Booger is already nuts. He chases anything that moves. You should seem him going crazy when dirt clods hit the water!

Google Maps has a photo of the pond and island showing up good. I think it was taken at low "tide". You can just see the smaller pond hiding in the trees. I can't figure out how to save it, so you gotta search yourself.

Do a screen capture using "print screen key" or use the "snipping tool" under accessories if you are using Windows.
If you are using Google Earth you can save it in the menu as one of "your places" tag it keep notes, make video captures and all kinds of crazy time wasting things.

Brandi, if that pond holds water well, it will be a much better catfish pond. It will be better with aeration, but you should be able to keep quite a few fish in it without aeration without them dying of oxygen starvation. It's an excellent looking pond with nice clear healthy lookin' water.

I can't believe how different your trees look. Ours still look mostly bare and are just blooming or with tiny leaves. Yours already look green and lush. I'm always surprised when I drive south to Ft. Worth. Just 70 or 80 miles makes a world of difference in how the trees look this time of year.

Turned out real nice! did you decide if, or what you where going to put /plant on the island? Ducks are going to like the island:thumbsup:

Jim,
The ponds have different clarity also. The first pond is all red clay. The pond with the island is white/yellow clay. After it filled and went down the first time, then filled again............it has been holding very water well. It is a lot clearer than the smaller pond.

I haven't put any pond dye into it in months. Just cornmeal..........which is floating in some old red pantyhose in one of the photos.

I'm kinda leery about putting my cats in it, as it is only 7 feet deep. I guess I will, as it is a real gradual slope that can be seined if needed.

I was gonna pump some water out of it into the smaller pond, last night, but I need another 25 foot of discharge hose. I did, yesterday, put in a clay diversion berm from the outlet of the overflow pipe of the small pond to drain into the island pond.

We got a big rain coming Wed and I am going to try my pumping tomorrow morning. Cause I want both ponds full heading into summer.
hugs, Brandi

Dennis,
I read up enough on small islands with trees to realize a large tree will have roots opening up ways to drain the pond. So no trees. Just grass or weeds as is. I do wanna put a duck shelter on it.
Just gotta get a round toit and find a small cheap boat. Maybe I can put a patch in the plastic bathtub I replaced last fall!

Yes, I checked on Earth after you posted. You can still save images by capturing them from the screen.

I bought another 25 foot of 2 inch discharge hose and now am pumping water from the new pond up to my small pond. The new pond has a very good water shed, so with the big storm coming tomorrow, I didn't wanna waste any water.4-9-13 Filling Small Pond.jpg

Upon exiting the small pond's overflow culvert, water will be directed by the new clay berm I added, on Sunday, to direct water into the new pond.4-9-13 Overflow Berm to Big Pond.jpg

Thanks Ron. I try it soon.

I looked at what you call Google maps and it does have a very good picture of your new pond. If you rotate the map view from N to E, S, and W you can really get a good perspective of the size.
If you edit the capture a little you can really bring out the color and sharpen the image so it looks real good.

Brandi the small pond may be a good "brood" pond for flathead minnows, channel cat and most other fish will eat them.

Labor Day weekend I had 6 days off, so I thought it would be a good time to dredge out the island pond as it was almost dry. Here are the before photos.
