KennyG: thanks for the base detail ideas. I think I will just go with some exposed face of the 2X6 at the bottom between the posts. Probably like 3.5 or 4 inches in height and then just elevate the metal panel trim to that point. Later if I desire I can use a 1X4 or some other similar profile of base material to finish the detail. Heck I might even install a 4 inch vinyl cove base since is readily available here (cheap) at a local salvage outlet. I might even consider a 1 inch brick paver which they also stock.

My neighbor and I have about 10 rolls of 30# roof felt left over from two large roofing projects. I was planning on using a Typar building wrap on my outside wall furring. The cost of this material for my building is over 300 dollars. I know historically that felt has been used for wall wrap. Since I have the material does it make sense to just use it in lieu of the Typar wrap? If I need more felt material it is readily available at competitive prices.

Assuming this substitution makes sense, how would you suggest installing it? I suspect installing it vertically with staples over the furring makes sense and would cut down the number and length of joints. I would lap the material at all joints, I'm not sure the joints need to be sealed or need to be since the material is somewhat self-sealing.

There seems to be considerable hype concerning the commercial wall wrap materials in regards to their use and function especially the air infiltration part. I don't see how you can make hundreds of holes in the wrap material and really effectively address infiltration. The felt seems to be a more cost effective choice that seals itself better around the fasteners and sheds water better from the outside.

Any comments or concerns about what I am proposing, do you have a better idea?
