If the hoe has enough power to hump the back of the truck around it could work great in open spaces.

This technique works great, you can probably move the truck side to side or drag it backwards down the trench.

I wish I had stabilizers...

This was the back of an old truck mounted hoe, and once was powered by a 4 cyl Wisconsin.

A back hoe that'll do 50 mph (maybe), nice. Looks like a good price for the whole deal but not sure I'd want to plow my driveway with it on the back, at least not my driveway. I can't see why the hoe wouldn't be able to move the rear of the truck with ease. A similar size tractor with loaded tires can't be too far off in weight, maybe heavier.

NewportNic, that thing's a beast. The way the cylinders are setup looks like it would give it tons of leverage.

I think it's pretty neat looking but I can't imagine wanting a hoe on a truck. Other than the portability like some of you pointed out, I don't see much benefit other than the "cool" factor. Once you are on a job site an actual backhoe is way easier to move around. The turning radius alone is far superior. But I have to admit.....if I had this truckhoe thing....i'd definitely show it off!!!

In my neck of the woods, the truck can be had for pennies on the dollar over a comparable tractor to mount a backhoe on.

The truck doesn't have the manuverability of the tractor. Going back and forth between the truck and the hoe would be a bummer. Having the cheap *** little dork motor to drive the hoe pump is a drag.

I can't think of any reason I would keep this whole. I would just part it out for better use of the pieces.

The 7ft JD hoe was pretty underpowered with the 24hp diesel in the 855. I know, I had one.
I just can't imagine trying to power enough flow for an 8ft with a POS 16hp B&S gas put put.

I like it. I want a backhoe for my tractor and that would be perfict. I don't mind doing a little work to get it fitted to the tractor. Finding a hoe around here at a reasonable price is pretty tough. Finding one big enough to work with my tractor is even harder.

I agree with this part so run a pump off the truck motor

As for the rest, not all of us can afford to buy a better hoe. I can't say that I've seen one that will fit my tractor lately either and not for $2500. Just saying

I havent seen one of those Case Unimogs in a while, they were a bit before my time but in the 70's dad looked at one when he lived in SC. He did site work and Bill board installations and septic tanks. He wanted one for the fleet but it cost almost 3 times what his new 680 and almost new 480 Case hoe.

NewportNic You also have a rare jewel now adays for an antique euipment fan like me. Thats an old Hopto backhoe Hopto was part of Bucyrus Erie company. They made a little tiny trailer mounted version like a Cad digger all the way up to your size. With the cylinder the boom and crowd arm you had the option of putting the bucket on backwards and use it as a shovel.

That way you could load trucks or wagons from a pile without dragging the pile to the machine. Also it was able to load above grade better like from a bank. I got to operate one like this An old man had one on the back of an old GMC truck. The old man had it turned for shovel work and I got to load a few trucks with it. Very neat keeping a clean face on a cut.

If I had built the Dodge I would have cut the frame down down a bit and and put the pump on the PTO of the truck. And put a nice bed on it like the Master Craft units.

I'm surprised you guys think that's not enough engine. It should be good for about 5gpm at 2300psi. I typically run my backhoe at about half throttle or 4gpm. Then again I'm just an occasional operator.

The pumps on most tractors are way undersized for the engine horsepower because they aren't fully hydraulic machines. Check out the specs on this Terramite with 20hp Kohler. 7gpm at 2400psi.
