I wouldn't drive out of the way for Chick-Fil-A, but I do like their sandwiches and my daughter likes their nuggets and fries. It's about the only fast food place I frequent anymore. They run a really tight ship and I admire their business standards. Always more than enough employees who are on top of things and provide great service. Nice clean restaurants and restrooms.

The owners have some strict religious views which occasionally piss off my wife and god forbid if she ever decides to boycott them, I'll probably have to sneak out to get a chicken sandwich. I'd really rather not know anything about the religion or politics of a restaurant, I am just there for the food and to make a business transaction.

It’s not that chick FIL a is strict, it’s that others try to push their philanthropy side to donate to choices they don’t agree with. Would you like to be forced to donate to causes you don’t agree with? I don’t.
They are actually being accused of being too left leaning by some conservatives, for what that’s worth.

Their breakfast is really good also. Just wish they would bring back the cole slaw.

Agree, I do miss their cole slaw also, the mac and cheese is pretty good though.

I've have noticed some changes since the founder passed away, some good, some i don't like that much.

It's funny that people get all wound up about the religious side of Chick-fil-A, never felt like they were pushing anything at their restaurants and I've never seen any discrimination of their employees or customers based on their locations around me.

I like them for food (it's fast food, come on) and fast and friendly service.

My one 16 year is looking for a raise from his diswashing job, and I'd like him to work there if doesn't find anything else. I know in my area, they start kids off at $13, and I sincerely think the service and attitude reflects the employees.

Although the owners are religious (God forbid not working on Sundays LOL), and although I've never met the owners, I first came across the owner as I laid in a burn unit. The owner (Dan Cathy) wrote a book on his experiences when he was in a burn unit himself due to a pile of brush he was burning himself on his property. Good book from what I remember. Reading up more on the man, I sincerely think the news plays it up. He genuinely seems like a nice man and after the whole blow up about his statements in the past, the reality is he actually seemed to become good friends with who the press played as he despised due to his religious views. He honestly doesn't come across as a nut case IMO.

Hence the term rust belt I assume.

MoKelly
No.

"The Rust Belt is a region of the Northeastern and Midwestern United States that has been experiencing industrial decline starting around 1980. It is made up largely of the Great Lakes Megalopolis, though definitions vary. Rust refers to the deindustrialization, economic decline, population loss, and urban decay due to the shrinking of its once-powerful industrial sector, such as steel production, automobile manufacturing, and coal mining. The term gained popularity in the U.S. in the 1980s,[1] when it was commonly contrasted with the Sun Belt which was surging then."

Popeyes does nothing for me. Don’t even consider going there.
I've always wanted to compare their spicy chicken sandwhich to a CFA spicy chicken sandwhich.

I don't have a popeyes close to me, and the only one in town seems to have lines move pretty slow and my wife will tell you even when we were dating, I don't do long lines and wait.

Last year I ended up doing some work in Myrtle Beach, but only in the mornings (There was a popeyes coming into Myrtle). Drive is about 3.5 hours, and that's the drive time lenngth where I'd rather leave at 0400 then go to a hotel the night before and not be able to fall asleep until 0200 because the wife isn't with me. Only took me a couple of hours being there in the morning and then I could drive home.

Twice, I left too early and popeyes wasn't open yet for lunch.

Third time I planned it where I'd be coming back by the restaurant right around 11 when they opened up and I could finally try my spicy chicken comparison. Pulled into popeyes right around 11:15 with 3 cars in front of me at the drive through. No word of a lie, after about 15 mintues of no one moving, the car in front of me drove off and now I'm the second car in line. I waited another 5 minutes and I said screw it, it's not worth is as I still have to drive home.

There is a CFA up the street from popeyes, pulled in a long line at around 11:25, and with a bunch of cars in front of me, I had my lunch no later than 10 minutes.

CFA just has their act together with the drive through with getting people in and out fast IMO. When you think about it, more money in their pocket. Everyone seems to work efficient at a CFA and the people behind the counter actually seem to go out of their way to be nice. I can't help but think that's hard to do in the fast food business.

Do you remember that everything in Gary was stained orange from the steel mills? Houses, buildings, telephone poles, heck, even the wires were orange from the pollution. It was an absolute hell hole, as far as environmental goes.
I remember the smell. Now where I grew up, Milwaukee Wi, had quite a smell......hops from the beer.

Not pleasant in that volume!

As i previously mentioned, i applied for a chick fillet franchise a long time ago and was rejected.

And while they didn't come right out and ask, they were fishing for some signs....one way or the other.

I'm not a religious person and i believe that had a lot to do with their decision.

I bought into a different franchise and luckily got out before too much damage was done.

I never go to CF but i will say, based on the way the seem to handle their drive thru, they should be running the virus deal!

The issue was you couldn't lie like a Southern Baptist 🤣 (just joking as anyone can lie)

I know some religious guys in my own industry because they let you know it. Ironcially enough, apparently there is nothing in the Bible about paying your bills. That said, there are some good men I know as well who are pretty religious and you would never know it without actually getting to know them as a person.

I was up in Lynchburg on a job with a project manager. We ate at an "old peoples seafood place" (as I call them) for lunch. I'm at the table, say a quick unnoticed prayer and start to eat as this other guy I was with was coming back to the table with his food. He comes to the table, sits, bows his head on his hands in prayer, and says this minute long prayer out loud. Nothing wrong with that, been there done that. BUT...once the guy gets done saying his prayer, he looks up at me and starts rheeming one of his employees out to me using every curse word in the book. I was like dang, 0 to 60 in a second flat.

Off topic, but the subject got me going LOL

I am in the worst part of the rust belt (>58% job loss). Its like Bosnia in the run down parts.
I wonder if and hope it'll make a comeback before I take my dirt nap.
Kinda doubt it....
