Is my MF 231 running too hot??

As previously stated. There is no overflow tank so the radiator will overflow the top two inches of coolant out . If filled cold to the top.
Use 50/50 diesel coolant and distilled water, not tap water.
Install a new known working gauge that reads in degrees as previously stated.
210F is still fine if working hard on a hot day.
Is the rad cap holding pressure?

I'm using "Fleet Charge" from Tractor By Net. I already bought it. Gonna put it in after I drain the flush..
How do I know if the radiator cap is holding pressure or not? I questioned this a while back but it's done slipped my mind.

As for changing the gauge to one with numbers, I'd definitely like to do this but not sure which gauge to buy or where to purchase it. Also I wonder how difficult it would be to change?? I've never changed one but would be willing to try.

Thank You for replying!

Got it all back together. Went ahead and sprayed degreaser all over engine while hood was off.

Just got done picking up tools. Let it idle for about an hour. The needle on temp. gauge definitely was reading cooler than what it did with the old Tstat. Haven't had a chance to put it under a load yet.
Plan on boiling the old Tstat to get a temp also. Gotta find a thermometer.

How will I be able to tell if the radiator cap is holding pressure?

After changing the Tstat I still haven't seen water swirling in the radiator. Does it have to reach a certain temp. or something before there's movement??

That's what the Stat does.... engine has to reach temp be fore the stat opens allowing water into radiator to cool

Yep murphy is on it. The Tstat is basically closed till water reaches 160F (your Tstat) then it continues to open till 180 or 190 at which its fully open. Provided its fully open which a new one should be the temp on your gage should not go any higher than fully open position. If it continues into the white or red zone then I would suspect partial radiator obstruction either inside or out. Thats when you need to take it to a radiator shop and have it serviced. They do a acid cleaning or chemical cleaner to remove scale etc followed by pressure test and final repaint. Its then like a brand new unit. Keep in mind if you get only a few mm of scale on either the internal or external surfaces of the radiator you loose near half of your cooling capacity. So lets see how new Tstat does then if needed we proceed to next step.
