Yet Missouri has a relatively high rate of violent crime: well above the national average, higher than anyplace in the Northeast, higher than other states in the Midwest - in fact higher than anyplace but some Southern states and DC.

Nor is Missouri particularly high in gun ownership rate.

One of those unanswerable chicken/egg questions. Are areas violent because they have lots of guns or do they have lots of guns because they are violent?

TopPop, what kind of roof mount do you have?

It's just two of those padded push in mounts for universal uses, they're some kind of good quality plastic and expand as you push the gun, or whatever, into them. They have ridges to help grip and are felt covered inside. If I can find the link I'll post it.

Yeah we got these two things called St. Louis and Kansas City. I have always been in favor of giving the Center city portion of St. Louis to Illinois. And some of Kansas City to Kansas.. But they would not want it.:)

Funning how anti gunners mis-lead with bad statistic. Gun deaths is not necessary a bad thing. Cop shoots a bad guy. Home owner shoots a burglar, woman shoots a rape-ist.
The FBI keeps total statistics and does not break it down bad guy, good guy. Anti-gunners would have you believe all are bad.

Guns are simply tools bad people use in malicious manners. Eliminate guns and bad people will simply find something else to use to harm others.

I carry a gun. It's a tool on my belt just like the Leatherman and flashlight on the other hip, and 4" Cresent wrench in my pocket. If the situation is such that I have to defend myself or my family with my plyers, I will use them or anything else I can to do so.

The leval of respect for others and being held accountable for one's actions has been lost in recent years. Too many people thinking they can act in real life like they see on TV, the way people act towards each other on so many shows that fill the channels, even "kids" shows, offer no good role models. Combine that with the reduction in effective disaplin in schools and homes, and here we are today... parents and teachers alike can't touch a kid without the fear of being charged with child abuse. The result is kids walking around with their eyes glued to phone screens, not bothering to hold the door for the elderly lady they just walked in front of...

Ok... rant over...

How interesting, You see my first thought was his next move was to ask the homeonwer for money for his picture. Kind of like a "squeegeman" Cleans you car window at a stop light and holds his hand out for money.. By the way.....the glass is "half empty":D

Several years ago, before drones were common, a pilot rented a helicopter and took aerial photos of everyone's home. Then he printed them up and drove around trying to sell them. I wasn't offended, I bought one because it looked beautiful. He had done a really good job and as private pilot I knew how expensive it was to rent a helicopter. He had IL plates so I'm guessing they did it all over the country.

It's probably been 10 years or so since then. I never hung that picture up and and I came across it recently... badly faded. I guess they didn't use the best quality paper and chemicals since it was being done on spec.

We have four from an airplane. I believe first two are printed from negative on Cibachrome. The later pics printed by photo printer. The fifth most recent picture is from a drone taken by a friend.

When I arrived home yesterday I was informed that three people had walked down our driveway and one started taking pictures of the other two standing in our driveway using our yard as a backdrop. We live 20 miles from town. Our driveway fronts on a state highway. The driveway wasn't posted yesterday. Am I wrong to think it rude of people to just come in, stand just short of the house & start snapping pictures? It was frosty & the trees were beautiful; but what happened to respect for personal property? Am I being overly isolationist, unfriendly, paranoid? Am I acting aristocratically to protect my privacy because I happen to own rural property? Just curious to see if others would find the situation offensive or feel that it's okay as long as the strangers didn't steal or break something and I don't get burgled in the next few days. Other than posting the new "NO TRESPASSING" signs I have no intention of doing anything else. It just bugs me.
You could have asked them if the frame rates they were using were faster than 1000 feet per second. Better yet, don't ask, just try a warning shot and see if they stick around.

I have a flag lot at the end of a 1/4 mile easement. The driveway ends with a steel gate that stays locked. A "No Trespassing" sign hangs in the center of the gate. One afternoon a few summers ago my phone rang and it was some kid out at the gate. He'd dialed the "emergency contact only" number I'd posted there for police and firemen. Said his car was out of gas, he was thirsty, and could I please bring him some water. I suggested he call AAA and told him not to call here again. Ten minutes later the phone rang and it was the same kid. Said it would be hours before anyone could come and help him. I told him there was a campground about three miles up the road with a cooler full of soft drinks and if he got started now he could be there in half an hour. Told him again to stop calling me and hung up. Another fifteen minutes go by and the phone goes off again, and it's the same kid! This time I told him that I was calling the Sheriff, and he'd better be gone before he arrived. And I did, explained that I was here on a remote rural property, alone, and the situation didn't feel right. They didn't have a deputy nearby, but said they'd have someone out in an hour or two to check on me. Never heard from the kid or the Deputy, but I did keep a shotgun at hand the rest of that afternoon.

Paranoid? You bet. We've had two drug related killings nearby in the 6 years I've been here, lots of burglaries, and one or two home invasion type robberies. My place is an hour from the Sheriff's Department central office, and it's pretty much up to folks to take care of themselves if something goes sideways. The local low lifes know this, and take advantage of it when they can. If you're on my property you better have a darn good excuse, or you will be charged with trespass. As the others have said, I moved out her to get away from the thoughtless and inconsiderate a-holes in the city, and inviting yourself into where you're not wanted is not the way to win my friendship.

An admirable fellow once said, "A stranger is a friend I haven't met yet".

To view other persons in any other way is only a denial of your own possibility.
It's no wonder the world is the way it is.

Heck, Invite them in and share a few good moments!

Next time I run into another "uninvited guest", I'll send 'em your way.

What's your address?
