I know one thing -- you wouldn't see me under that truck.

Not in KY, the license does not look like Kentucky. Even though I can't make it out colors, etc don't look like KY. CA maybe ?

Hey Gary, don't feel bad. I didn't see it 2 weeks ago either. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

It is nice to see that the guy took the time to put a rock behind the right rear tire so that the truck wouldn't roll away from him! /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hmmm? What is "safe" ?

If it didn't fall on him, was it "safe"? If it didn't explode (assume he is working on or near the gas tank), is it "safe"?

Would I do it? NO! It is not "safe" for me to do.

But I'll bet there are a lot of things that I consider "safe" that others would put in the category of this picture. Maybe no matter what we do it is a matter of how much "risk" we are willing to take. If we miscalulate, then it isn't safe.

Just wondering out loud. I believe it is good to show such pictures. I wonder if this guy thinks this is "safe"? Maybe, or he wouldn't be under there. His experience (if nothing happens) may tell him that it is "safe" and he will (or has in the past) do it again. Lots of maybe's here. Could be he doesn't have the facility or tools to do it any different, but has to get it done. I guess there are no "after" pictures, so assume he survived this one. Will he survive the next? /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif Will I?

Not California, no stucco on the building's wall and it's concrete blocks, a no no in earthquake country. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

well put beenthere, we all have a different view of whats safe, personaly i would do that provided the timbers were stout and the vehicle wheels were blocked so it couldnt possibly move, only thing i would do different is to do it on dirt rather than asphalt, on asphalt those timbers could easily kick out but on dirt you would be able to dig them in a bit so they wouldnt be able to slip out. heck i have dont things more or less by the books and had things go wrong, like when i had my baler on jackstands to remove the pickup head, it has to be on stands cause to get the shaft out both tires must come off. well it went great i crawled around under there for hours wrenching rusty bolts and beating and prying stuff since it apeared to be securely up on the jackstands, well the next afternoon i came home with the new bearings i needed and found it had fallen off the jackstands! thank god i wasnt under there!

Hmmm, good point on the CA earthquake thing. Upon further study of the improperly propped vehicle, it is my conclusion that this photo was not taken in the USA.
Maybe this was a frame from a terrorist training film on how to put a bomb in a truck ?

Where ever this situation is, it would be a good example for a Darwin Award nomination. Have to feel sorry for the poor fellow in the picture, if only he had a decent size CUT with a loader he could use that to support his truck and wrench away in perfect safety....

Yeah, right... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

you can bet that i would trust those wooden blocks more than any hydraulics system, you never work under any hydraulic lift without blocking it
