Due to the fact I sold new JD 2040's I can assure you that they didn't come with any SCV's from factory without an extra charge. SCV's was 1 of the ordering options & new 2040 could have been ordered with a maximum of 2 sets of scv's wheter it had open or closed center hyd's. Most utility tractors sold new at dealership where I was employed during that era had ""no scv's""

Closed center system will be 9.5gallons/minute at 2100rpm.

That's what tractor data showed. Up until the last several years no dealer was the same.. I don't doubt what you are saying.

Although Tractordata has accumulated vast amount of information with most of it being correct there are a few mistakes listed on their site.

Probably no factory SCV hence the Jerry Rigged dual system. If factory equipped a pair of SCV valves are siamesed together .
If the valve is not closed centre with a closed centre pump or an open centre valve with an open centre pump, the hydraulics will malfunction.
We need a picture of the pump.
If closed center the hydraulic oil from the valve should be routed into a ported transmission filter cover. Otherwise the front pump will run out of oil if a loader, log splitter or hydraulic motor is connected.
Was this a loader tractor ?

Open center up to s/n 349999 and then closed (right hand pic) after 350000

Edit: TX Jim corrects "up to # 266749", and he stated that in an early reply as well... but the OP hasn't offered a s/n yet.

I realize you posted serial # for each parts catalog but open center hyd's for a 3 cyl powered 2040 was only offered through serial # 266749 not 349999
