I just got a quote on a MF 1635 with cab and FEL for $26K cash. The dealer raved about the FEL and cab quality, but I have not seen it. This sounds more competitive than I had thought it would be. But MF was so far off my radar, I need to do a lot of research on them.

Also, I could step up to the 1647 for another $2500

I am a sucker for the step-up! :D

To do an accurate comparison you probably need to post prices without tax since everyones tax will be different. I agree with everyone else the price is to high on the Kubota. I bought a L3940HST with FEL for 22000 in the fall of 08. I would expect a cab to add 5-6K to that price. So for my tractor you should still be under 30K and a 3240 should be even cheaper. I would get a quote from Barlow Equipment - Home of the Kubota Tractor Package Builder that will give you your best price on Kubota and will tell you how bad your dealer is. I would guess your dealer is 5-10K high.

Do you mean the 1648? That gets you into a larger chassis, 4cyl vs the 3cyl and 11 more hp. Pretty nice upgrade.
The price I got for the 1648 was 36K Cab & FEL - no tax.

Brady it out of the office until Sunday but he will treat you right. I know he's not close but without sales tax, I would imagine you would still come out ahead even after delivery. If you do a search on here everyone has good things to say.

I was just writing down stuff as the salesman talked- it must be the 1648, as he said it had a larger chasis and 4 cyl. And his cash price of 29,500 is starting to sound pretty sweet.

Any idea of the FEL has that self-leveling feature like the Kioti? I really think that would be very helpful for me.

Wow.. great price sounds like to me based on what I got. I don't think the MF has auto level, is that standard on the Kioti? I would like that too!

What is the rule for buying out of state on the tax?
If I buy in a neighboring state with no sales tax and just use it on private property do I still register and pay the sales tax where I live?

Yes, it is standard on the DK35 and 40 I am looking at.

As far as the salesman I talked to- he called it a 1647 with a DL120 bucket - neither of which exist (there is a 1648 and an L120 bucket , the DL is for different numerals)- so I will have to do some confirmations. What model FEL was yours equipped with?

Maybe it was the 1547, older model but new ones are still around. I didn't know there were different FEL's for same models so didn't specify.

DK35SE HST only shows one loader, the KL351. I can't find anywhere on their site that its auto leveling.

I may be getting info overload, trying to spec out and evaluate some many models at once. Upon further review of my notes and dealer quotes, I see it is called "self leveling" and may only be on 45's and up.

"KL451 Kioti Loader Package ( self leveling, quick attaching bucket, 2800lbs lift) $4500"

the above is from a quote for a DK45SC

Maybe I am over analyzing data but not sure I like the width to weight ratio on that Kioti when it comes to using it on slopes. I have slopes to deal with.
Compared to the MF1635-
The DK45SE HST is 1100 lbs more heavy and more narrow
The DK35SE HST is 824 lbs more heavy and also more narrow

The width/weight ratio of the MF sounds better to me on slopes.
Added weight would be a plus for snow removal on the flat lot I would do but if that added weight is above the axles I would think it would be more tippy.

Anyone tell me if I am wrong in my thinking, not interested in rolling over

I am still looking at used for options in addition to simply putting a plow on my pick-up for snow removal and using a Garden tractor for the mowing.
A new V-Plow and new GT with locking differential is only $8,000 but not sure I want a plow on my pick-up, its an 05 Dodge Diesel and very capable.

Any input much appreciated!

I haven't read all the posts, just the first page, but...

I like having a tractor and would like a bigger one. But I have plowed snow with a pickup and plow and it's hard to beat, unless you get so much snow that you need a blower.

A heck of a lot cheaper to go with the V-plow and new GT.

That's what I am having a hard time with, we can get and easily get an 18" snow fall and I figure my 9000 lb pick-up with 8' poly V-plow would go right through it nicely and move it where ever I need using scoop mode.

For the tractor I feel a bucket would be inefficient and would go with a 6' pusher and let the tractor set on site during the winter months but an 18" snowfall might be too much for a pusher and I would end up doing bucket by bucket method.. sounds slow.

The KL 351 on the Kioti DK 35 does not have a self leveling loader.

I have been trying to clarify all this with the dealers- the Kioti website really has no definitive info.

Best I can tell, the self leveling is the KL 451, which I see on some DK45s, but not all. Some 45s I have looked at have the KL 401, which is not self leveling.

I guess it now begs the question- just how important is the self leveling feature?

Matt,

Height to weight ratio probably isn't the best comparison, since you don't know where the weight is distributed from tractor to tractor. Obviously, wider is better. But if the Kioti has it's extra weight below the center of gravity, it might actually be more stable even if it is narrower. Not saying it is; don't know for sure; and that is the point.

I own a Kioti and from what I can tell the weight is the the axles and transfer case. The engine sits low, very low too. Though, from what I've seen, most of the machines in the class all have similar engine mountings.

I've used CK25 on some pretty steep slopes. In fact, that is one of the reasons I liked it: heavy down low and wider than most I looked at. I most work mine on such slopes, and with loaded tires it's quite the beast, allowing me to work with heavy FEL loads without much concern for rollover or tipping.

From what I can tell, the MF seems like a really nice tractor. And if you can get into one with similar features for the same money, I'd probably go that way over the Kioti. But, I don't believe there is any appreciable difference in stability between them. Of course wider is wider, and certainly helps a great deal.

Also, remember that wider means that all your implements might have to be wider as well in order to cover your wheelbase. Wider implements might adversely affect your stability too, and make it harder to maneuver in tight spaces.

Read thru the posts so far. So, parameters are mow 1.5 acres and plow a 50x150' area?

The tractors noted are big for mowing 1.5 acres. You could easily do that with a 25-28hp tractor in a smaller chassis. Plowing or a 3pt PTO snow blower could surely run on a smaller less expensive tractor.

Actually if I smoothed the land some with a rental I could even use a Garden Tractor 2wd with locking differential would do for mowing.
Snow removal on the other hand is more demanding, here is a partial pic of that lot. I am at 4000' in Calaveras county just south of you.
