JD2320 VS. Kubota B2620

The kubota dealer here also sells new holland. Small orange outsells the small blue ten to one. In the higher HP tractors though, 60hp and up, blue seems to get the nod.

Your not going to find it published or on any offical website,
Then where are you getting your information to back up your statements? Not trying to nit-pick so please don't get me wrong here, but without seeing any real objective data , then it is merely a subjective opinion.

The orginization that tracks this information is called the AEM (Association of Equipment Manufacturers). The companies pay big $$ to the AEM to get sales data nationaly and on a local level. If your in the business, you hear bits pieces of this info all the time as its how dealership performance is measured. I guess the most concrete piece of information out there was at the last Kubota dealer meeting where they stated infront of about 5000 people that they now have over a 50% market share according to the AEM... thats about as objective as your going to get with these kind of claims. No, its not on a website, and no you can't link to the source. Take it for what you will.

Sorry, if someone wants to believe in something that they are told, whether for purely motivational (sales meeting) reasons or something else, it is sad that it's objective enough for them. Personally, I believe in seeing cold, hard facts. Quantifiable numbers, and if these numbers can not be published, or released to those who "pay big $$", than I'll bet the farm that they just don't exist.

And what facts would those be? If you have "cold hard facts" showing that Kubota doesn't outsell JD in the under 50 HP segment, then bring 'em. Why should I believe what you say instead of what Messick says?

Additionally, you fail to make the case that pumped up sales numbers are a motivator. What is going to make my dealers work harder - knowing they have 20% market share or knowing they have 50% market share?

Here you go:

FY 2008 Shareholder annual reports for both companies

(in Billions)
JD Net income - 28.4 Profit - 3.48
Kubota Net income - 11.5 Profit - .68

If they are selling that many more tractors, they aren't making any money at it..... Their income and profit has been going down the last 3 years also..John Deere on the other hand

"Agricultural equipment sales rose 37 percent, or by more
than $4 billion, as those operations had their best year ever.
Earnings per share increased 18 percent with net income up
13 percent."

Thanks for playing, but Kubota doesn't sell heavy construction equipment, forestry equipment, mining equipment, combines, etc. Conversely, Deere doesn't sell pipes, valves, industrial castings, or vending machines.

Show me JD's and Kubota's numbers in the under 50 HP CUT market and then we'll talk.

Kubota makes some very nice tractors...so does John Deere. Both have their strengths and weaknesses, one fits some folks needs better than the other but Kubota isn't putting JD out of buisiness any time soon. If they have that much market share in any segment their profits don't show it. (nor does anything else but opinions)

KML,
You're right, Kubota won't be putting JD out of business. I think selling to ordinary folks takes a different strategy then selling to big corporate farms and constuction companies.
Besides Kubota there is alot of competition under 50 HP and the dealers want to sell. I am fairly certain I could have been sold a deere. I am on a Kubota because of the dealers. The John Deere dealers may not put them out of business but they might put them out of the small tractor business. I don't think they realize they need to treat the guy who is buying a $20000 tractor the same as a guy buying a $100,000 tractor. ( maybe better)
Read my thread about the utility vehicle. I want a Gator but will probably not buy one, again because of the dealers. Just my 2 cents.

I really, really could care less who sells more tractors. I do care to see real numbers to back up claims and statements. Thats all! I'm both a Kubota and Deere fan. So please don't get me wrong here.

There is actually an interesting conversation point in those numbers. One of the common ciritisums that you hear about Kubota from the inside of companies like Deere, CNH, etc. Is that they are "buying marketshare". Part of the reason Kubota has grown like they have is the value that you get for your dollar. They are not allowing companies like Deere to make the margins they are used to on compacts. That competition is good for all of us.
