Re: Jim\'s Pole Barn Project - hopefully

Looking good Jim keep it up. The vinyl is the fun part I think cause the more you keep putting up the better it looks. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: Jim\'s Pole Barn Project - hopefully

You mentioned Monica helping. Funny thing was, while I was "wrestling" with the one light box on the front yesterday, she was on the side putting siding up by herself. She has also been helping with the J-channel and everything.

Greg:

You are right, it has been one of the more fun parts. Easy. No heavy lifting - and no ladders at least yet. Funnest part so far was probably drilling the holes and setting the poles - got to use the tractor. Of course the trusses were pretty neat too. Getting to use the boom pole that Richard (rsatter22) and I designed and built together to lift them with.

It's really looking good! I like the Dutch Lap siding for outbuildings, in fact, I wanted to use that on mine but was over-ruled. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
We have some 'grafitti' under the siding too, but I drew the line at names and hand/footprints in the wet concrete apron.

Me too. At least on the outside. Maybe in a corner on the inside somewhere, but not out where it can be seen all of the time. I just think that is tacky.

Thanks for the complement too. I just wish it hadn't taken so long to get this far. It is hard when it is pretty much just yourself, you've never done a project like this, and money is in short supply.

As far as the Dutch lap goes. I like the looks of it, even though it doesn't match the current house. But when we build our new house (in the existing location) it'll have siding to match the garage where it isn't brick or stone (lower front). This siding is Georgia-Pacific from Lowes. It seems to be pretty decent stuff. Thick and fairly easy to put up as it pretty much holds its own shape w/o wrinkling.

I know that feeling (so does my wife who says I have a tendency to bite off more than I can chew /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif), but over the coming years you will thank yourself many times over for having taken the first step. And, in addition to what you have learned by DIY, you will have a double strong dose of satisfaction, accomplishment and pride to accompany the relief when you finally wrap it up! Two thumbs up!

I had my mason throw about 15 coins throughout the top of my patio and sidewalk. It's great to watch people try and pick them up!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Re: Jim\'s Pole Barn Project - hopefully

It looks great! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I will be starting my pole barn project soon. I will definately be looking back at this thread for inspiration. Keep up the great work.

Re: Jim\'s Pole Barn Project - hopefully

Progress was slower this weekend then I would have like, but we did get quite a bit done. The front not a lot happened other than to get the siding up above all of light boxes and I'm ready to start going over the doors.

Re: Jim\'s Pole Barn Project - hopefully

Here is a picture of the North Side. Almost finished except for a section up at the very top. Looks like I'll have to be cutting pieces to fit. Looks like maybe 1 1/2 - 2" is while it'll end up being. I already have the top strip on and I didn't shim it out any. When I start putting this top strip up, I'll have to see how it looks w/o shimming. Hope it looks OK as I don't want to shim if I don't have too (laziness I guess).

One thing I realized I forgot this weekend. Too bad it was after I had almost all of the siding up on this side. I didn't put a 30A plug in for a camper. I'll have a dedicated 20 (Christmas lights), but I would rather have the 30A w/ the RV connector. So I'll probably go through get all of the siding on and then take a piece back off unless someone can think of a better way to get another outside outlet.
