Re: Jim\'s Pole Barn Project - hopefully

Monica was so excited about actually haviing a floor, that the Sunday after it was poured (it was poured on Wednesday) she went a bought a new fridge. Has been nice having water/pop there as I've been working. In this picture you can see all of the electrical stuff waiting to be installed. BTW, I ran a heavy duty extension cord for the fridge. Knew somebody would wonder about that. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: Jim\'s Pole Barn Project - hopefully

Since we got the tractor door up and could actually lock stuff, we moved some stuff in. I know, you are going to say. Should've left it out until finished. But in all honesty, it is easier to go ahead and put it and maybe have to move it twice (once for electric and once for drywall) than it is to have to keep going back to the shed for stuff and trying to keep squeezing it back in there. Here you can see my tool box and a shelf that has some misc. garden supplies and car cleaning supplies. BTW, in case you can't tell, we are now parking the truck and Trailblazer in the garage.

Re: Jim\'s Pole Barn Project - hopefully

Here you can see where the tractor is being parked temporarily until I can get the truck & car in that side of the garage. I had to move my ladders on the wall because where I originally had them hanging we decided to put a shelf. You can see the countertop that I bought for $5 that will be the base for the sink and my work area.

Re: Jim\'s Pole Barn Project - hopefully

Here is some of the misc. junk that has already made its way there. Some will stay, some will go. You can see the desks (not put together) there by the truck fender. I have had these at my In-laws for over a year, I was originally going to use these as shelfs and maybe some work space, but after all that we might keep one or two small ones. The rest will be gotten rid of.

Re: Jim\'s Pole Barn Project - hopefully

When I got those desks, I also got 3 file cabinets - BTW, not out anything other then a little time of moving the stuff around as it was all given to me. I'll be keeping the file cabinets. They have turned into a pretty handy place to keep all of my power tools - except for my framing nailer - it won't fit. Still have to figure out were my table saw and band saw (small, table top) are going to go. So much for the hope of squeezing the tractor implements in. Would like to at least keep the BH in though.

Re: Jim\'s Pole Barn Project - hopefully

Last one for now, but this is what the wife has been doing. All of the manuals, etc. for stuff that stays in the garage are now in one of the file cabinets in the garage. That'll be pretty nice when I need to look something up. Won't have to tromp through the house trying to find the manual. Still want to get wireless Internet out here, but probably won't do that until we get broadband.

Re: Jim\'s Pole Barn Project - hopefully

Jim, did you hire a crew to pour your floor? What's the rate per sq. ft. in your area? I'm getting bids right now for a 36x45 and have gotten quotes from $3.00-$3.65 a sqft. The 3.00 per sqft is for a level compact site. The 3.65 is to fill after building and compact & pour like you did, so really its a wash.

Re: Jim\'s Pole Barn Project - hopefully

I didn't so much hire a crew, but I hired a guy that does concrete that brought in some friends (one of which actually owns his own concrete company and one of his employees). He typically pours large warehouse floors and Wal-Marts. They have several warehouses to do in Columbus this winter of 750,000+ sq. ft. Said they would typcially pour between 800 and 1000 yards a day. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I think I got a pretty decent deal. He charged me $750 for the initial floor (30x48) about $.52 sq ft. and then $220 for the front apron about $1 per sq ft. I provided the concrete/rebar/wire etc. I had the site filled and compacted prior to their arrival. The only thing they did - more because of a change of plans because of the weather was put some 2x4s at each garage door because of the rain. They then also used their laser level to set the height for the floor drains and cut them. He only charged me $25 to seal the garage as well. Don't know if your $3 - .65 includes concrete or not, but w/ concrete the garage itself was $1.88 sq. ft. include the apron it worked out to about $1.92 sq ft. I think I got a pretty good bargain - especially considering the quality of work the guy(s) did.

BTW, I didn't really solicite any other bids. I had seen some of this guys work and he had done an excellent job and once he came back with the original $750 I told him it was a go. I did have one guy stop by the house right ater I had started the garage (2 years ago), he said he would do it for $500, but didn't know the guy or his work. I also misplaced his number so that was another reason why I didn't choose him. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Re: Jim\'s Pole Barn Project - hopefully

Yes, my 3.00-3.65 includes the concrete, labor, rebar, and all misc. Sounds like you got one heck of a deal, or that type of work is just less expensive in your area. Anyway, I wish I was in your shoes on this one!

Re: Jim\'s Pole Barn Project - hopefully

Looks great Jim,
Now I wanna see what Monica did with all of "my" rocks /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
BTW, I found 6-8 more little ones, ya got to come finish the job..... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif (just teasing)
You guys have no idea how many rocks Jim and Monica hauled out of here in one load. I never thought that trailer would make it home in one piece. Every one of them were brought in here by the original owner from someplace special to them, like vacations and what not. Didn't mean a thing to me. If Monica wanted them, she got them, all of them /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
