The power quad transmission has it's own oil pump. It supplies pressure for planetary clutch packs and reverse brake. It also lubes the transmission. This relief valve is to protect the pump and is located in the transmission front valve housing. There are also a filter relief valve, and cooler relief valve.

JDparts is down so I could not pull up a drawing.

Does this pump also supply oil to PTO clutch?

Yes, low system pressure (light ON) from trans pump and PTO will not operate.
At the right rear of the tractor is the PTO valve. It will have test ports marked BRAKE and CLUTCH. System pressure should be 170psi at 1000 engine rpm.

JDparts is up now. In the drawing Key #30 is the filter relief valve, Key #35 is the lube relief valve, and key #36 is the cooler relief valve.

So thanks for the info on these relief valves.

Looks like this is the next plan for the OP to follow.

Ordered 2 manuals on CD today. Dealer said it could take a week.

Having just bought a power quad, I am curious what the Reverse Brake is?

Having just bought a power quad, I am curious what the Reverse Brake is?

The short answer; Used to reverse power flow thru the transmission by "braking" a gear"

The long answer

There is a ring gear (teeth on ID) that the reverse brake "locks" to the transmission case. There are outer planet gears that mesh to the ring gear and inner planet gears. The inner planet gears mesh with the output shaft. As the planet case rotates the outer planet gears have to turn the opposite direction since they are meshed to the "braked" ring gear. They drive the inner planetary gears, which drive the output shaft in a reverse direction of the input direction.

Zebrafive, thanks for providing both a short and long answer! I think I just learned something today.

1) Check fluid level
2) Replace trans filter part number AL156625
3) If 1 & 2 do not help it might have the lube relief valve stuck open, or failed trans pump

Got the CDs yesterday. Wish there were pictures on where to hook hose ends.
