Just Brutal this morning

We're @ +14 on the way to a high of 26, we're talking shirt sleeves & shorts weather!

Same here, but it's only forecast to last for two days then back to -5 on Monday morning. I may have to clean off the garden with the snow blower so my wife can start spring planting!

As a kid growing up in the southern Berkshires of Mass. I remember our coldest day being -34F. The cows were all inside -in their stanchions. Except for the hay above, there was no insulation, but their body heat kept things from freezing - though we did have heat tapes around for when pipes did ice up, and in the milk room. -42F is the coldest I've seen in central Maine in my area and that was just once 25+ years ago.
This winter, like last year is colder than the prior 15 years of winters - but still short of what it has been!

I am tired of wind chill reporting. Step out of the wind and it warms up considerably. That is a no brainer. Wind chill is a way to hype weather reporting. Remind people about the dangers of frostbite- but they should lay off the windchill.

24F right now- snow coming tomorrow. I need to do some plowing and bring some wood in. The ends of branches are moving slightly - that's my windchill report!

The more cows you put in the barn, the warmer the barn gets. My uncle told me that when I asked him how the barn stays warm in winter.

What town did you grow up in? I love that area. I grew up in CT but spent a lot of time traveling up and down Rt 7 through MA over the years. Lovely part of New England.

-42c wind chill this morning

I realize California gets has a bad rap on many things and one is overall cost of living...

It must take a toll on those living in frigid and extended severe cold... right?

Extra for heating, days lost to weather and overall wear and tear to vehicles from the cold, traffic accidents and rust.

I'd take the cold any day over what the Californians have to pay for housing.

It was 14 degree here at 7:30a.m. Pretty good breeze. The strange thing is its been so cold, it felt pretty warm.

It was about 20 today, and I was out in a sweatshirt, knit cap, no gloves. Same outfit yesterday, plus gloves. You do get used to it. A friend of mine goes pretty much all winter with no coat. He says it's healthier. He might be right, but when it was -15, I didn't see him stop by!!

Yeah that's cold, but judging by the outflow of Michigander's to warmer climates, you are in a minority. My father is a French Canadian, born in da up, and he has lived in South Florida for nearly 30 years. He complains if it gets under 70.

Don't get me wrong, anything in the single digits or below is too cold for me. We don't see too many of those days though. I tell people the key to enjoying winter is finding activities that you can do outside. I ski and ice fish so I have opportunities to get out of the house. The people that I talk to that really hate winter are the ones that stay inside and don't do anything.
