I read that the machine determines hours based on how hard its working
Its simpler than that - it simply counts revolutions of the crankshaft, through some reduction gearing.

Only at the specified pto rpm will indicated hours match wristwatch hours.

If you run at low rpms puttering around, for loader use or pulling a harvest trailer etc, it might take years to show another 100 'hours'.

At i think 2400rpm your turning 540 it could be 2200? But you must have really thick stuff or your going very fast to not be able to cut it with a 4fter? You have a 2210 right? That has just a bit more than my ym2000. And sure i can bog it up but i have to be in really thick tall like chest to waist deep stuff going in 7/8 speed!! or top gear.

I have never run it without the clutch but only noise i notice is a small ticking every now and then but really dont notice a thing...other than diesel knock.

With the clutch on you mean the shaft is to long to reach? You need to cut like 8"s of the shaft or like 4" off each or something i think to make it work. The owners manual of the cutter should cover how to measure and cut it.

glad they took care of you so fast. Just a bummer you have to turn a wrench but i guess some it to be expected when you buy a 30 year tractor regarless.

I can tell you the original 2220BD parts manual states 547,709,928,1231 pto rpm. It does not state at what engine speed. Some folks have said 2200 rpm, some 2400 rpm. The hand held tach can settle it. I suspicion 2400 but with no certainty.

and yes it records 1 hour on the hour meter for every 60 minutes of operation at 2400rpm. so i think the way the math works on that meter is if your running at say 1200rpm you have to run 120 mins to put one hour on the meter.

Thanks for all the replies. I don't remember where I read 2200, but I bet 2400 is correct. It seemed like PTO was slow at 2200. I'll try 2400 next time.

The shaft fits OK if you hook it up first and then hook up lift arms. Just won't quite make it if you hook up arms first. I think its OK without cutting the shaft.

Must be something wrong with my over run clutch. I'll make a video and post it.

I better raise my hand here. I told you that back in post #8.

It's based on the YM240 Operation Manual. Your 2210 engine is pretty much a premium later model version of the same engine, many parts are interchangeable and I think the displacement is the same. it may be the case that your additional 2 hp is attained at 2400 rpm while YM240 specifies 2200. But since we haven't see any better information than the YM240 manual so far, here's my source for citing 2200 rpm. I posted these scans from the YM240 manual on here back in 2006.

"For standard PTO speed (540 rpm), run the engine at 2200 rpm."

If someone has the Yanmar specs for YM2210 and they differ from this, that would be a useful resource to post here.

Need to make a correction here. Not a 2220BD parts manual. I is a 2210BD parts manual. Also in the manual one column has PS/r.p.m, next column, same row has 22/2600. I believe this indicates 22hp @ 2600rpm.

I've Ran 540 1st. Gear for Yrs. and My Tach matches Cali. Eng. and Hr. Meter 5-4 attachment perfect! And now that I have my 2nd. Gear Pto. working I'm only running 1600-1700rpms.. Which Matches Clemsonfor statement of 60 Min. @ 2400 and 120 Min. @ 1200rpms.. No doubt my Meter has seemed to slow down. Alot!!!!

Coosa, does your tach have a tic mark at 2200 as shown in the diagram above, or one at 2400? Anybody else with a 2210 - what do you see?
