We are getting serious about building a new house on our ranch and between all of the digging projects involved (water and septic lines, electric, etc.) I am thinking about adding a KB2485 on to my NX4510. I have an ancient Kuboto mini ex that needs a lot of work done to it so I understand that a mini ex is a better tool and renting one is an option. Two months of rent on one is about the same price as the hoe. Between weather days, only sneaking in a couple of hours here and there, road trips to take care of an elderly parent, I suspect that I would just stay mad looking at something that I was paying for but not using. I have used real backhoes before where it had enough power to lift the back wheels off of the ground enough to drag you along so I did not have to constantly switch seats to move it. Is the 2485 strong enough to do this? Any comments or know anyone who has a used one for sale?

Using the tractor hydraulics I think they are bit slow compared to a good mini ex, but get off the tractor and use a shovel for a while if you get frustrated, then the backhoe will seem fast enough!
From what I've seen they are certainly powerful enough to dig with the bucket sized for the dirt hardness, just not super fast.
I always watch some youtube videos to see what a piece of equipment works like in real life. If you get a used one and don't like it, you can sell it for what you paid.
Also your NX has got a hst, get a stick for the pedals and leave the parking brake on, and in low range it will have no problem moving. I probably have an hour of driving with the brake on over the years, either forgetting its on, or driving the tractor standing beside it...

I have an 8 1/2' backhoe (Rhino 85) on my DK 35, the tractor seems to have plenty of hydraulic flow for speed on the backhoe.
If I run the tractor much over 2100 RPM the backhoe gets fast enough it becomes jumpy IMO.
For smoothness and speed 2100 rpm works perfect for my machine.
