The Italian manufacturer Goldoni also makes specialty tractors for John Deere designed for use in apple orchards and vineyards.

What's the big advantage of a Japanese tractor over a Korean one?
I have owned a John Deere 850 (made by Yanmar in Japan) for many years. It has been a good tractor and they seem to have a very good reputation for reliabilty.
I have also owned A korean built Kioti DK for 10 years now. The quality and reliabilty is every bit as good as the JD.

The truth of it is, there are very few bad tractors built these days, regardless of color or COO. Dealer service and brand presence in an area, as well as ergonomic differences between brands/models, have a far greater impact on owner satisfaction than does the COO.

You must keep in mind that John Deere like many other companies started out as an American company but now they are a global company. They sell equipment worldwide so therfore it would make sense to manufacture worldwide. Just because something reads "made in USA" doesn't always mean it's good and on the flipside "made in Japan" is not always bad. Korea like Japan has made leaps and bounds in quality and technology that made many American companies step up their game as well. China has the potential to be dominant player in the Ag and auto market in the near future. As for me, I don't care who or where it came from as long as it performs the tasks I bought it to do and last longer than the payments.

When I was kid Cats were yellow, and Made in America. And tiny tin windup toys were Made in Japan. But that was 50 years ago, and times have changed.

When it comes to large equipment nothing is bigger than an ocean going ship, and Korea is the worlds largest shipbuilder, followed by Japan, and China. Those three account for 51% of the market. U.S.A. is number 8, with a 2.96% market share.

For those of you who won't "buy foreign", consider this:
LG Tractors is not a name we think of when shopping for a CUT. The company began in 1975 as a part of Hyundai in cooperation with Yanmar of Japan.
LG had tie-ups with Mitsubishi and Fiat/New Holland, (CNH Global), and sold tractors under the LG, LG-Fiat and LG-New Holland brands.
They also built tractors for sale by LG Montana, TAFE, LongAgri and Farmtrac in North America.
In 2005, LG Cable split off from LG and became LS Cable. The tractor division became LS Tractors, and tractors began to be sold under the LS and LS-New Holland brands.

"Made in America" is a thing of the past.

For all of you who bleed green...

I found an interesting post on the Kioti forum. Kioti tractors are made by Daedong, a Korean tractor manufacturer who also produces (or produced) complete tractors for McCormick, Cub and Bobcat that they rebadge as their own.

Apparently, in Korea, Daedong makes tractors rebadged as John Deere.

I realize that Deere's marketing rules in Korea do not necessarily translate into future ideas for the U.S. and I also realize that Yanmar (a foreign company) makes excellent engines for many Deere CUT's (including my beloved JD3320). Plus there are many other foreign made parts found on many pieces of JD equipment.

Seeing a Deere on the Daedong site just got me thinking: will we ever see an entirely foreign made tractor being rebadged as a John Deere like so many other U.S. tractor companies have done?

Doesn't seem like too far of a stretch anymore...

Yeah okay, Mr. 12 Post.

Amazing how sucking that green Kool-Aid down makes folks think everything Deere is made right in the USA along the banks of the Mississippi.

LOL!!!! Too true!

You would care if making a product in the USA financed your payments! Buy made in the USA when possible. Your neighbors will thank you.

Deere is pretty open as to where their products are made, I can't find any evidence of a Korean made Deere. I believe at one time Daedong had a marketing agreement to sell the large Deere tractors in Korea

This is probably the case, Daedong does not build anything like those tractors and probably lacks the resources and know how to pull off a 300Hp powershift tractor. This is not an unusual agreement. In AUS Kubota is partnered with Krone hay equipment. It probably simplifies the logisitics to partner with another company.

Can you help us out with a list of "Made in America" tractors? I'm looking at Bobcat/Kubota/Deere, and it seems they are all made overseas.

Well here is the problem with buying American. In most cases an oveseas company can manufacture, ship to America, setup dealerships and sell to the consumer at a better price than an Amrican company will sell to them out the front door. Unions, high wages, EPA, Osha, and all the other obstacles that companies have to deal with have priced America out of a lot of markets. When Honda and Toyota can build a car better than GM or Ford that should be a wake up call. Kubota showed up with "the little tractor that could" and ran circles around old established tractor companies. A little korean company floated a car over here with a 10 year warranty. Where was the big three? asleep? I'm far from being anti-American but we are going to have to step up our game and give our customers a good product at a better price. When the label says "Made in America" It's got to mean something.

When Toyota, and Honda build a car for the US market these days it is most likely built in the USA using just a small precentage of Japanese made parts more than the typical Ford, or Chevy uses. The last time I saw any numbers it was in the single precentage range. I heard that Toyota has something like 200,000 US employees.
