Kubota Conundrum...Which Model?

The Kubota BXs are surprising little tractors.
Big performance in small packages.

I do not want to have a tractor AND a lawn mower. I want one to do both jobs. I'm limited on storage space around here .
* I'm getting tired of maintaining so many engines (garden tractor, push mower, generator, weedeater, chainsaw, and chipper/shredder).

*The only engines I have to maintaine outside the Kubotas is a weedeater& chainsaw.

Here's my 3.

The fewer tractors you have the more you play musical implements.

Gosh, I didn't know that you had three tractors! Wow you have everyone set up different! Man that must be great!

1* When I have been moving alot of dirt, I then wish I had a B or even a L.
2* From what you have described, the BX is the best size for your home property.
3* a new trailer to haul it on, a bigger truck to pull it with.

1*If my BX23 didn't have a BH and A loader on it I'd give the tractor away because without them it would be worthless to me.
2*Rite on.
3*The bigger the tractor the more trailer you need to haul it on.
The more trailer you have the bigger the truck you need to tow it with.

If you are going to be using it primarily for the two smaller lots then the BX would be my recommendation. I think you would be pleased with the capabilities of the BX line - some tasks take longer than with a larger machine but it gives you more seat time:)

*Another consideration is hauling the BX to your other piece of land versus a larger machine. Not sure what you would be hauling the tractor/attachments with but a larger machine may push you out of your towing abilities.

Good luck!
This is one consideration many don't consider when ogling a bigger tractor.

IMHO I would skip the B series and the BX25 and buy a BX2360 with FEL and MMM. It seems that the main task would be mowing with some landscaping on < 3 ac. mixed in and some occassional use on the 21 ac. tract. The BX would be a better mower than a B series, and significantly less money, and I would not worry too much about the ltd. cat. 1 hitch because there are several brands offering an implement line specifically for SCUTS which makes compatability with the ltd. cat. 1 hitch a moot pt. My reasoning is as follows.

The Ford 3000 fills the need for a larger tractor, and where heavier work needs to be done, it will be far more capable than either a B or BX.

The ltd. cat. 1 hitch shouldn't cause much headache because most of the major implement mfg. offer a SCUT specific line now, and the inability to share implements with the Ford shouldn't really be a factor because it is strong enough to tear up many ground engaging implements that would be suitable even for a large B series.

A BX is a better lawn mower than a B series, and mowing will be its most common task.

For mowing and landscaping, the BX2360 w/FEL will do everything that a BX25 will do except backhoe work. The savings from not buying a BH can be put toward renting a commercial duty BH several times when the need arises, and a commercial machine can do far more work much quicker than a BX25 while also putting the wear and tear of backhoe work on someone else's machine.

jster804,
What did you end up doing?

I am in the same place as you but I am buying for my wife. She will use it as a "power wheelbarrow" and lawnmower because I am gone for work for a year at a time every two years. She will cut large rolling fields (3 @ about 5 acres each) but will not use a pull behind mower, she hates them. I was hoping to get some backhoe use on the side.

I am not thinking that now, I may just get something 26-30hp with MMM and FEL just for her and buy a real excavator later. I may just buy the smaller hp BX24 or BX 25 with a MMM and just be done with it. I am following this thread with great interest. I manage the other 100 acres when I get home with my awesome Zetor.

It's looking like the BX25 would be the best direction for me to go...

Question: Am I going to regret the 54" over the 60" cutting width. I noticed yesterday that the 54 doesn't stick out very far from under the tractor. On my current lawn mower my 54 sticks out pretty good allowing me to "swing in" to areas to trim...

We had a 2004 BX2230 until Friday when we traded it in for a B2620. We own 100 acres of mostly wooded in northern NY. The BX hauled many logs, boulders, large trailers of stone/dirt, pulled trees down where we wanted them, used it as an ambulance to pull someone out of the creek with a broken leg and take them home through the woods in the trailer with cushions and blankets from the cold, we tilled with it, used the york rake, threw LOTS of snow with the front end snow thrower, and mowed hundreds of hours with the 54" under deck mower all with turf tires. I think that tractor did SO many great things for us. We had some snow thrower trouble this past year and it got worse. The dealer offered my husband $6400 for our tractor, mower deck, and snow thrower in trade for the B2620, new 54" mower deck, and bigger snow thrower plus $11,000. We did it. With this one, we'll be getting a loader that is truly needed and I think the hp on this one will get some of the bigger trees out that we couldn't with the BX. We're sticking with the mid mount deck because of the trails in the woods plus, today I'd put a thread out about a rear mower, but think the length and having to look back when I'm getting around things would be a pain. I think we may cut a few trees for wood and make the trail a little bigger to accommodate a 60" under mower deck. The hp feels worth this and it purred along throwing all the snow yesterday. The deck is so much more roomy and the seat isn't leaning back like the BX. There is MUCH more room to work the implements and I feel it'll be easier to attach them.
So, that BX would work fine for you, but for larger items and lifting, I feel we made the right move to this B2620.

PS - my husband and I went out to the barn and checked the old 54" for the new mower deck and WILL get the 60" because we wouldn't be able to cut in as well and would be doing even more weed whacking! The 54", however, was perfect for the BX 2230 and did a nice job...but it sure looks like this B2620 will be easier to attach things to - especially the mower underneath.
