Kubota Conundrum...Which Model?

I'd go with the 60" deck, thats what I have. It sticks out a few more inches on the left side, which is great for getting under bushes, up against trees etc. I don't think the difference in price is very much.

I have the BX24 on 1.9 acres. However, its split into two lots. 1 acre where house is and the .9 across street that I use for garden, tree house, storing things. etc. When I first got the BX, I knew I was gonna have a problem mowing the path through the bushes across street due to bushes and trees too close together. When I removed the 60 inch deck , I can get through. I used the BH to dig up the trees and move it back so i have a 8 ft path now. I am much happier with the room and haven't lost a tree yet. I do NOT regret the 60 inch deck, It saves me alot of time and does a much better job of mowing then my old cheap tractor with 38 inch deck. If you are inclined and enjoy working with the tractor, you could dig up your trees and place them farther apart or somewhere else on your lot so its more pleasing. ;) . Besides the BX's are so much easier to transport with a smaller truck. There have been other TBN'ers here who used a 6 ft bush hog on the BX. They did mention they have a issue driving on the trailer with bush hog on and it would hit the ground. They solved issue by driving as far it would go on the trailer and then stop. They would tighten up the top link as far it would go and then then can clear the ground.
As for having ground clearance on your 21 acre lot, Is it mostly hilly or flat ? If you get a thumb with your BH, you be able to pick up the trash that was pushed into the piles and get it cleaned up. Sure , it will take you longer with a smaller tractor, but you wanted something mainly for your home lot right ? You could still have the ford to go into areas the BX might not. If you really need to get alot done in a short amount of time on your 21 acre lot, and dont want a larger tractor, why not rent one for the weekend to go what you need to do ? If you wanted to go cheaper and not sure if you really need the BH, you could go with a series without BH but get the FEL. you will find more uses for the FEL then you do with the BH even on your home small lot. Woods makes a BH for the 3 pt on the bx series if you needed a BH at a later date.

1*Wonder if your insurance covers crossing the street .Most homeowner policies won't cover you when off your own land.
2*But still requires a least a 3 / 4 ton pick up as I've been told.

Yes he is a very lucky man!!!

The thread title and subject is "Kubota Conundrum....Which Model?

This is a person trying to decide on ONE tractor and he's being given advice from someone who couldn't decide on two and went ahead and bought three. I understand why LB did it and in a twisted way it makes sense, but the average guy doesn't want an additional couple of engines to maintain.

I object!

The average guy would love to be able to have additional engines to maintain if they were free, he had storage, plenty of money, an agreeable SWMBO and a good mechanic.

Yeah I am covered. I explained to the ins company on how its gona be used and need to be transported from point A to point B when I need to do work on my own land.

Where is it written a 3/4 is required for a 2k~3k lb machine like yours and mine ? Its the towing capacity/power and stability that you are looking for.

A full size 1/2 ton should be fine...Talking 5000# or so with the trailer. I've pulled 9000# with a short bed reg cab chevy 4X4 with a 5.7 & 3.73 gears...You know it's back there, but it'll do it.

I'm looking for hauling capacity as well as this.
I need a dump bed pick up that I can haul 2000 to 4000 pounds of gravel dirt etc in.
I am not sure a 1/2 ton would be up to that.

If you're towing the tractor along with 1-2 ton of material I agree...Sounds like you need a 1 ton dump...They can be had at some "reasonable" prices now due to the fate of the constrution industry.
