kubota hydraulics messed up

i have a l 3400 kubota tractor.the hydraulic is mested up.front lift and p t o skip and jerk going up.power steering is hard to turn.front loader will not go down with motor off.4 years old.the higher the r.p.m. the better it works.

Welcome to TBN.

Do not continue to operate the machine with the hydraulics starving for flow especially if it is an HST (hydrostatic Transmission) it will be destructive.
It sounds as though you have a hydraulic restriction.
Since it effects even the power steering I would look to the strainer (if it has one) filters and fluid first.
Have you checked the fluid and what does it look like?
How long has it been since you changed the fluid and filters?

Check Quick connects to be sure they are connected properly.....seems like return line restriction if FEL does not go down.....also check to make sure your 3-point/draft control is not in "Full Up Position"....this will sometimes make the same condition.....

Check the fluid to see if it's foamy or milky looking.

Pull the HST filter under the HST pedal and see if there are lots of shavings there...


I would also not run it until figured out at all..

When was the last time you changed your HST filters and fluid?

changed fluid and filters after this stared liked 10 hours being time to change them.fluid does foam when it is running.

Sounds like a hyd suction leak. Check the input hose to the pump.

On my 3400 I had a return that leaked ever so slightly on the block under the right foot rest..

I would take all the returns off there, wipe it all down and use teflon tape being VERY careful not to get any of the tape inside the "flow" area...

Hello to all from a new guy in Mobile, AL.
This sounds like the problem I'm having w/ a Kubota L3300 4wd w/ shuttle-shift and loader. The bucket is jerky in its operation and the power steering is stiff. My question is: Is the large spin-on filter I see under the floor board below my right foot the filter for the hydraulics? Is this the only one or might there be another one? Any idea how much hydraulic oil it takes to change it?

Since it effects all the circuits, I would check the suction hose on the gear pump - it looks like a question mark.

If the rubber looks at all questionable, change the hose - that is the most likely source of the aeration.

Yes, suction leak could be it but how about FEL not going down....? restriction in RL or cyl just chuck full of foamy pressurized air?

Good catch WD, I missed that fact when reading the post originally.

I would bet that a QD (quick disconnect) is not seated all the way. Unplug all of them then re-connect them.

I am having the same problem with my 3400, I will check out the QD's, the small drip on my return linessince beginning, even mentioned to service mgr. to no avail, will check my suction line from sump for cracks. Good post, great ideas.

Found problem in rubber hose attaching pump to metal return line. Thank all of you for this post.

I thought I was in deep deep trouble.
