Depending upon how big of a hole you want you can poke 4 -6 well placed holes with the post hole digger then use the front bucket to scoop out the loose stuff. I used this trick before I got my backhoe. I was surprised how far down the bucket can reach. This kept hand digging to a minimum.

I thought about renting an post-hole digger but ended up doing it the old fashioned way with a shovel. Picking up and setting the trees was the easy part.
Even my wife thinks the tractor was a good investment now.
