Tractor
Kubota B2320 HST w/ FEL, Kubota L3800F, Ford 8N
This is my first post. I have been lurking for a while working on my 8n (thanks for the help on that), but I'm starting to get a bit tired of tinkering with it constantly to keep it going all year round for bush-hogging, plowing, and skidding logs.

I was in to my Kubota dealer (I have a b2320 hst with fel) and saw a L3800 gear 2wd. I got a quote including 275lbs in front weights, loaded rear tires, and ktac insurance for the 0% 60 month finance ng. The quote was $14,412 including $753 in taxes. Does this sound like a good deal (at least for pa)? Thanks in advance.

That was new? I got a quote of about $19,000 for a L3800 w/ loader and 4WD, gear shift in 2010.

grumpy,

If you are decided on the tractor, then you need to get quotes from other dealers. Anything we say is just jibberjabber.

Ummm...

If that is an accurate quote then it seems to be a great deal.

Yes, it's new. Last L3800 they have. I was going to try another dealer this weekend while I was out.

Sounds okay with a loader. If that is without a loader, seems high.

I agree 1000% with bigbull. Kubota compacts are lightweights. For a general use compact agricultural tractor, 4x4 is the only way to go.

Not sure what kind of terrain he has where he lives, but a 4x2 tractor here in Branson (noted for hills) is totally useless.

I agree that 4WD is awesome, but if this tractor will replace a 8N, then 2WD will still be fine to pull logs and brush hog.

I paid 15k for my L3800DT 4wd, loaded rears, w/loader, with 14 hrs on the meter three years ago. It's a keeper!!! Believe I would shop around some more.

A Kubota dealer near me has two Mx4700's 2wd. One has 27 hours and the other has 63 hours. Both are rental returns and both can be had for 14,000. I think they still qualify for new financing and I'm sure they'd throw in loading the rear tires.

Thanks for the replies. I'll definitely be looking around some more. This gives me a good direction to start.

I've recently ran into a few problems with my L3200 in 2wd even with loaded rears.

My barn now has a pair of pallet forks sized holes in the wall in back... I figured I'd be fine on a 5-7 degree slope dropping off a maybe 200lbs metal coral panel. I have loaded rears & that panel isn't even 20% of my rated lift capacity, so I didn't bother putting on my box blade for ballast. Well apparently that was enough to leave some nice skid marks because I wasn't in 4wd.

These new CUTs are designed & balanced for 4wd, unlike the old generation which was designed for 2wd with a lot more junk in the trunk. Unless its just pulling a mower on flat ground I wouldn't want a 2wd Kubota.

yep, I agree completely.

If no loader (FEL), these smaller tractors are fine in just 2wd. Add a loader & I want 4wd, But counter weight on the 3 pt is even more important... ;)

So, I got a quote on a 4x4 L3800 that was a few thousand more, and after consulting my bank account, I think I'll just look for a heavier older tractor for my bush hogging. The B2320 with fel that I have should handle the rest. Thanks for the replies. Would have been nice to get a nice shiny new tractor, but I just can't justify the cost right now for the amount of use I'll get out of it.

You can get good deals on the older iron. That's the road I would take for brush hogging.
