Looks great!
You have now reached the point where progress seems to haved slowed to a standstill. It is all detail work hard to see the progress not the obvious big jumps forward like you had with dirt work, brickwork, framing, and such.
You are going to have a beautiful home.

Robert, I remember the Mac and Cheese days also;) .

I designed the layout of the kitchen to my wifes request. She is an EXCELLENT cook so it was "yes dear that will work", "but the island will need to go here".:)

mjncad,

I was not sure about the under cabinet lighting, but I like it now. We also have receptacles above the cabinets for some lighting if needed.

The work light was bought from Lowes, $39.00. My builder has a set at our house so I have been using them and liked them so I bought me a set. And your right they won't angle down as much as they angle up.:( .

Michael,

You can see the under cabinet lighting in post 285, pic 2 and 3. You have to look close to see the illumination under the top cabinet. The lights are small fluorescent controled by two different switches. I can take a close up of one if you like, just let me know. As far as why we chose under cabinet lighting...the wife said she wanted it:) and she want receptacles above the cabinets:) . The actually make a big difference in the kitchen and I would recommend them.

Westbrook,

The fireplace is ventless gas logs. I wanted a wood burning fireplace but my wife did not want that smell with her allergies. So we compromised...gas logs upstairs if I get a wood burning stove down stairs.

Lee,

You are right...sometimes it is hard to see what was done that day. But we are very close to the move-in date.

Great reply to continue a great thread. Great info!

I know you are busy, but I would like to one day see the actually lighting and setup of the lighting under your cabinets. Doesn't have to be today, etc. just sometime when you have a free moment.

Thanks David!

Michael,

I'll try to get a picture for you this weekend...if I can get the camera away from my wife(hopefully she won't bang-up my leg;) ).

I won't have lights this weekend since we are not supposed to have them on; we have been pulling the meter off the temp pole and pluging into the house. Builder suggested I not do this on the weekend since you need to have a licensed electrician on site when this is done.

David, your house looks great. You'll be moving is before you know it.

The fireplace is ventless gas logs. I wanted a wood burning fireplace but my wife did not want that smell with her allergies. So we compromised...gas logs upstairs if I get a wood burning stove down stairs.

If you haven't chosen a fireplace down stairs yet, you may want to look at Quadrafire. We wanted a woodburning fireplace but my wife has mild asthma and we were worried the smoke would set it off. The Quadrafire model we chose is designed to be used as a closed "furnace" but has an optional firescreen so it can operate as a normal open burning fireplace. We love it and have enjoyed the heat on these sub-zero Wisconsin days.

Jonathan,

I did buy a wood furnace from US Stove. I looked at the ones with the glass doors but decided the ambiance was not needed in the basement. I just wanted a cheap heat source!!

DUH :p if I would have read your post a little closer I would have noticed you said "stove" for the downstairs and not "fireplace".

Does your stove have to have a chimney or can it be vented through a wall? I would like something in my basement eventually but need some way vent it.

Dave - Fantastic thread. It was my read for a Saturday evening.

One question - Can you fill us in on how the house is positioned in regards to North,South ,East and West.

Front of House?

Garage?

Rear of house?

I learned some especially about burying Propane tank and luv your choice of Kitchen cabinets Hickory and black counter top looks great.

Thought of another question - How many bedrooms?

One more - How large is your family? You mentioned MIL moving in with you.

David,
Very impressive! Things are really moving along now with all the final touches tacking place. Won't be long before you're moving then?
BTW, the mantel looks great and your kitchen is just marvelous.
