How wide would you go with a Landscape rake? My GL3240 is right at 6' wide with the R4's. Would you go 6' so is it not wider then the tractor when not angled or go 7' so when angled it is close to the tractor width?

I have only found a few 6'ers used and can't find any 7' at the stores so will have to order a 7' if I go that route. Found a good looking ABI rake for a decent price. Don't want to go the cheap TSC route from the stories of them bending really easy.

I would go with the 7'. You want to cover your tracks when angled, and you have plenty of tractor for a 7' rake.

Go at least 7 feet. My rear width is about 6 foot 6 inches and at the biggest angle an 8 foot rake covers the width but a 7 foot rake wouldn't.

7ft I use one on my ford2000 no problem

I laid out your 6' os/os rear wheel distance on paper and found that a maximum rake degree pitch that would be equal to the 6' wheel distance is 30
degrees. I couldn't find any degree specs on the ABI site-check into it-30 degrees is fairly to way extreme, and might hit the rear tires. Anything less than that will do a better job of covering your tracks.
I also didn't see a guide wheel option.

Whitnel:

Our tractor out-out is 5'-8", have a 7' wide rake ; I'd agree to go 1' wider to angle.

My Arps is 8' That the perfect width to cover my roadway at a 45 degree tow angle. Gauge wheels also recomended. That helps isolate the tractor ups and downs from the tine bar.

7' it is then. I am going to look at a landpride and woods tomorrow if I can find some. I went by the local Kubota and JD dealer and neither had any Landscape rakes. Looked at the TSC model and a Kodiak at the local CO-OP.

I believe this thing will see alot of use over the next two to three years while working the drive and eventually building the house and shop. So I don't want to buy something that will fall apart or bend too easily.

MtnViewRanch,
Thanks, I sent those guys an email. I found a company about 45 minutes away that carried Fred Cain but only had a 6' unit and did not know when they would place another order. They would not just order one rake for me, needed to be a certain size order.

Keep looking, and DO NOT go with the 6 footer, it is just too small for your machine. Stay with the 7 footer. Is Ken Sweet close to you? He carries Fred Cain implements also. The Land Pride units are good, but too much $$$$ for what you get in my opinion.

Just my :2cents:

Ken Sweet is 2 hours north, not too bad of a drive if necessary. I wanted to look at a Landpride or a Woods this weekend but nobody has one in stock. It was disappointing but everything happens for a reason.

Picked up a very used used and tweeked Leinbach 8 footer (from CL) for my GL3240 a few weeks ago. Ordered 10 replacement tines from AgriSupply for the 9 that were missing. Got a box each of grade 8 3/8-16x1.5 bolts, nuts & 2 boxes of washers.

Spent some quality time with it today, removing two jiggly & frozen hitch pins and untweeking one side of the L to which the tines are bolted. Grandpa's big old Stilson & a 5' piece of pipe for leverage did the trick after I broke what looks to be a pot metal casting on a comically huge HF pipe wrench. Eventual plan is to get an 8' section of 2x2 square tube to weld to the flange of the L to avoid repeating this effort. I strongly suggest looking for a rake with tines bolted to a closed section - much better torsional strength than an L or C channel.

Removing the hitch pins was the worst job I have attempted in a long time. Lots of Kroil, oil, torch, Kroil, oil, torch action with 3/4 drive breaker bar & 5' cheater pipe interludes. The folks over the hill could probably hear the shreiking of the threads. Should have cut them with the torch. Guess I am stubborn.

Didn't realize it was 8' when I picked it up - thought it was a 7. Not sure if I can spin it 180 degrees - I'll have to check that this evening. It really didn't want to spin at all. I found a grease fitting for the pivot while it was jacked up in the air that was still covered with original paint. I don't think the original owner(s) ever knew it was there or greased it. Spins nice and smooth, now. If I were to buy new that's something I'd look for - the grease fitting.

Hitched it up tonight. With the 3pt adjusted just so, and the telescoping link ends fully extended, I can just sneak it past the R1 tires and spin it completely 'round. Didn't think it possible.

Baby Grand, Glad that worked out for you.

I ordered a 7' Fred Cain from Sweets yesterday. Hopefully they gave me a good price. I was tired of looking for one and just ordered it. Can't wait to get it.

Will do, got a call from them this morning. The rake should get to their place later this week and be turned around to me first of next week.

Got the rake on the tractor Saturday. Glad I went with the 7', not too wide straight and just right angled.
