This is a really long thread and admittedly I haven't read the entire thing. So what I am about to say may have already been mentioned. But has anyone brought up the idea of a Kubota B21 (TLB Series)? I would think it would be perfect for a landscape job of this size. Downside would be no mower though.:( But to be honest, if it were me, I'd get a B2630 (B Series). I don't think I've ever read here of anyone getting too large a tractor and regretting it. But I have read on many occassions of people regretting not getting a larger tractor. As always, it's easy for TBN members to spend other people's money though.;) I don't know, get what you think would do a good job and not be frustrating to use. You don't want to get a tractor to just "get by". I know you said you have plenty of time. But don't get something that is going to be frustrating due to its limited capabilities. Do it right the first time. It's cheaper to spend a little more money initially than to save money initially and have to do it all again. From what I've read BX owners are very loyal to their machines. There are a multitude of BX owners on this forum. On the other hand though, I can't help but think that sometimes the machine's capabilities may be slightly exageratted on this forum. Some posters may be worse than others. Perhaps it's "high hopes". Remember the ant and the rubber tree plant? Don't get me wrong, I really admire the BX series. I'd like to have one myself someday. Oh geez, I hope I haven't offended too many. I may have my TBN membership card revoked.
I was looking at that tractor and I would absolutely love to have it,would trade my bx23 for it in a heartbeat. However try to convince the wife to :

1 buy me a large tow vehicle to haul it,im sure my cherokee would struggle haualing that ,where as it gets it done under 5000 lb towing capacity with the bx and the tandem ...PRICE 30000:D

2 Tell her she has to leave her car out, becausethe 21 wont fit in the garage like the 23 did,or build the pole barn i wanted...PRICE 10000:D

3 Tell her the new tandom i just bought is too short, its hard to haul the 21 on a 14 ftat upgrade to the 18 ..PRICE 4000:D

4 Tell her she has to forgo that new car to replace hers because i up graded the tractor[15000],bought a bigger truck..[30000],bigger trailer[4000], pole barn[10000]total 59000 in debt now:D

Then when she asked why i needed it,ill tell her it was faster, lifted more, and even though the bx has mastered most of our projects, ill convince her that it is better somehow:D

Buying the bigger one initially is good advice if you got extra dough, but it all comes down to living with in your means, and choosing between "a tractor that will do the job" or "a tractor that will do the job easier, and faster"
ALAN
P.S
5 Honey i need some money to widen out the tractor road we have for the new tractor,60 loads of gravel ought to be enough:D :D :D

... more than likely you will be upgrading what you have ...

Any real stats to support your statement, more than the two out of dozens that I have logged, mentally, that have found the need to upgrade from a BX class machine ... I'm including the nice MF, Cub, etc tractors ... ?

Be sure of what you want before you buy, more than likely you will be upgrading what you have so be sure you think long term and not just what is in front of you now

Actually, it seems he will be downgrading in size after the grunt work is done, and this seems more in line with the majority of 10 acre and under owners. That is once the land is cleared and digging and gradeing is done, lawn maintenance becomes job #1. In lawn maintenance a large heavy machine does more damage than good to turf.

This thing (BX) seems to be the perfect size for my lot IF I didn't have the stumps to deal with. What I'm looking for is input that it will survive the job without blowing up or wearing the **** out of it. Basically I'm thinking it would have a hard (but not abusive) life for 2-3 years, then have the easy life doing less demanding chores.

Like previous posters stated, some of the larger stumps will take time. I have removed some pretty impressive stumps with my BX- 22. I break the roots by using the tooth on the bucket. just barely grabbing the edge of the root. shreds them pretty good. have fun

I want to address the issue of the durability of the bx, use it, don't abuse it, and it will be with you for years to come. I often want a bigger tractor, but the bx is the perfect size 90 percent of the time. Good luck.

BTW is Taizer still reading this post?

If it's only stumps, get one of these, the Ripper Tooth will cut down the time to dig out those rooths.

Go with the BX, it's the best choice out there, for <10 acres.

Yeah I'm still here! :) Just been super busy at work so I read more than I post.

At this point I'm debating between the bx24 and the B7800 with a BH. The B will cost quite a bit more, but a lot of guys seem to think it's the way to go. I'm still looking at mid January for a purchase. You guys have me all fired up and excited about this!

If you go the B7800 route, look at a Wood's BH, one that is subframe mounted.

Load the tires to give the machine weight for landscape work.
You will have a machice that will be a bit big for mowing the tight spots. So what? Pick up a used Snapper rider and a push mower for the trim work.
