Lights on ROPS. Examples?

That would be my last kubota....EVER... if the dealer would not do engine waranty work because I put lights (holes) on my ROPS!!!

...and then MY lawsuit would start!!!

There is no way they can get away with that anyways. I've read my manual and although it's not what they want you to do, they never specify the ROPS affects the waranty, maybe the ROPS waranty itself if it failed and you got hurt but not any other type of work the thing might need. Besides anybody could buy another ROPS and just put it on if they had too! :D

Like I said it's all with what you're comfortable doing!

I'm sorry I didn't expressed myself correctly.
It doesn't void your warranty but they might ask you to change (buy another one) your ROPS before doing what needs to be done.

Anyways...
  • I'm not a dealer.
  • I do all my maintenance myself because it's done better that way.
  • If I ever have any problems with that ROPS/warranty thing I'll be the first to yell at them.
  • IMHO, Kubota tractors are rather light weight and the ROPS is quite solid, so a few holes in the tubing would not compromised my safety, that's for sure.
  • I didn't drilled holes because it's kind of a reasonable accommodation between me and them. Once it's bolted there, you don't think about it anymore. The job is done, it works and everyone is happy.
As you said, Taiser, I'm pretty sure the company stated that point because some people exaggerated by modifying their ROPS mindlessly.

I'm in total agreement with you, especially about doing the maintenance yourself. Besides, it's a 'bota, when will I ever need any dealer work done!!! ;)

I bought some inexpensive lights from Walmart and mounted them under the ROPS. I also used a relay from Radio Shack to turn them on when I switch the lights to high beams. no new switches to add. I did a few things not normally recommended though, I drilled and tapped the rops and tack welded conduit to the back of the rops to run the wires in.

As far as warranty work goes... My Mahindra dealer had to split my tractor for warranty work with a factory rep there and no one said anything 'bout the modifications. They had everything back the way I had it when THey returned it.

I'm sorry I don't want to hijack the thread but I have to answer this one.
I live in a nice place called Brigham located 45 minutes east of Montreal and 25 minutes north-west of Richford VT. I'm always happy to see some Canadians showing up on this great website. Thanks for the french question. Last time I spoke with Ontarians was on a cruise to Hawaii (they were from Hearst).

MIne. No drilling or nothing. Lighter receptacle strapped to ROPS and a single magnet light. Works great when I need it. Sits in barn when I don't.

Lighter receptacle has been handy. Have used an amber strobe (for hayrides) and a Q-beam (for grins).

Small world, I've got relatives in Hearst, I'm originally from a small town about 1 hour away from Hearst called Smooth Rock Falls. Never been to far east of Montreal but actually go there usually every year or so, also have relatives there, in Chicoutimi and Alma!

Sorry back to our originally broadcast thread! :D

I have used automotive accessory backup lights that are designed to mount to a reese hitch frame. The parts were purchased at a local pep boys store, and they come with hardware that clamps around a 2" square tube. It also happens to clamp around the ROPS very nicely. Nice size and great beam shape. Photos at some point. 55W each seems to be the right size for a L2900.
