Exactly like I thought. The BB being much more compact than a mower will center the weight much better.
Have you (or anyone else) used a ballast box and found that it bounces?
I have never had my ballast box bounce but, usually when it is on the tractor I am digging or pushing dirt with the FEL so not travelling very fast.
Relative to the point of this thread, I have unloaded turfs and a heavy, 800-900lb ballast box. When the ground is wet I drop the FEL when mowing to lighten the tractor as much as I can, when I need the weight for other jobs I put the ballast box on. It is a Kubota 4 cu ft box filled with scrap steel and concrete. I prefer the ballast box when working in close quarters because it is so compact and far less likely to snag on something.
