Loader Valve Recommendations?

   / Loader Valve Recommendations? #51
Well, I received the new valve today. Unfortunately, it is not exactly as I ordered.

When the order was sent for me to verify, I noticed the order code called for the wrong orientation for the joystick. I sent an email asking for it to be checked and provided the correct code as described in the spec sheets. I was assured that it would be correct. Well, it came just as the numbers indicated.

I have a few options if I don't return the valve.

One, get use to lowering the boom by pulling the handle down.

Two, figure out a way to mount the valve upside down.

Also, no handles were sent although we discussed them.

From what I can see, in order to get the correct one it would require a different body. I will have to give them a call tomorrow and see what they suggest. I just hate to create an issue for these guys.

Whatever you do, don't operate the loader with a valve operating different than the norm. Years ago I was sent to investigate a fatal farm accident. An older farmer had hooked up his loader in order to move large bales of hay. He cross the lift arm hoses and up was down and vice versa. At the end of a long day working in the sun, he moved the FEL lever the wrong way and rolled a large bale off the top of the loader and unto him. He suffocated from the weight of the bale.

Couldn’t you just swap the hoses to make it do what you want?

Dave,

Thank you for the wisdom. Even though I might not ever have a problem, when I am no longer on this old earth, someone surely will. So that is no longer an option.

4570Man,

I could make it work by swapping hoses, but would have to raise to get it into float position. This could be a problem with the loader slamming down. Also, nobody but me could use it without the chance of getting hurt or hurting someone. I could just see someone with a load lifted high and pulling just a little to hard on the lever.

Could you provide us a picture of the valve? Specially the joystick side of it? On some valves, it's possible to rotate the whole joystick linkage assembly around to the desired orientation.

Seems like a novel idea, but float when trying to raise doesnt do any good.

And neither does regen when trying to curl if that valve has that feature

Understanding and agreeing with the importance of this, please confirm that the attached pic shows the "norm" / convention for loader joystick operation (?)

..... Two, figure out a way to mount the valve upside down. ....
If you do that to get the boom operation oriented per the "norm", would that result in the bucket being reversed from the "norm"?

Is your original valve mounted above or below the mounting plate?

I'm wondering if the confusion about the valve / joystick orientation spec has to do with the mounting plate - i.e. is the valve intended for 'top mount' vs 'bottom mount' or vice-versa? Realizing that changing the mounting plate location may not be possible or very difficult, unfortunately. See attachment 2.

FWIW I ran into this when recently replacing the FEL valve on my Yanmar - the OEM valve had the mounting plate above the valve, but all the readily available replacements were intended for the plate below the valve. Study revealed that indeed the valve body is machined differently (internally) to keep all the operational orientation 'correct' (could not be fixed by swapping joystick parts, spools, or 'upside-down' mounting of the valve). I ended-up, granted with a bit of difficulty, changing the tractor mounting plate to fit the replacement valve since I couldn't find a valve to fit the tractor mounting plate at a reasonable price.

All of this also applies to "Left" vs "Right" for 'side mounting plate' valves.

I called the guys I ordered the valve from today and was told they will research if a field change is possible. Also he told me that the handles would be coming. Below is picture of valve as requested.

This is the correct orientation for my application.

OK, understanding that port assignment/function may vary depending on the valve/spool and stick arrangement differing by manufacturer or valve model specifics ...

In the pictured orientation (Port A1 Up or Forward) which port on the valve now in hand has the boom float beyond the 'working/pressurized' position?

I believe you mentioned this valve has no regin/rapid tip, but if so, which port is that on?

When you lift/push the stick, which port is pressurized (confirming it's A1)?

When you push the stick to the right, which port is pressurized (confirming it's B2)?

TX,
The valve in hand has the pivot at the bottom left. You are correct that there is no regen so left to right will not be an issue as it is just proper hose placement.

The diagram I provided would be the one I would need. Float is on first spool. Float is achieved with spool out.

I received an email today stating I could not change the float direction. This was not my question which tells me the person I am dealing with does not understand the issue. Despite me sending him the correct order number, he doesn't get it.

Now I am left with finding a way to mount inverted or fabricating a new pivot block. I will take the valve apart this weekend and see what I can do. I might could order the correct block from a different company but not sure if there is a way to install because of screw placement.

From what I can tell there is 4 options with two different blocks. The one I have can be pivot at top right or bottom left. The one I need could be bottom right or top left.
